Harris County grand jurors have indicted a missing cab driver on murder charges, accusing him of killing a rival driver during a squabble over a "scooped" fare.
The indictment returned Monday was against Esene Udofia in the Sept. 16 killing of Joe Gaskin, 39, who died of injuries suffered during a fight in the 4100 block of West Bellfort.
The whereabouts of Udofia were unknown to grand jurors.
"He's moved and quit his job," prosecutor Keno Henderson said. "We couldn't find him to testify before the grand jury."
Henderson said both drivers, identified as Yellow Cab subcontractors, had been fighting over a fare. Udofia had been dispatched to pick up a customer, Henderson said, but Gaskin beat him to it.
Based on investigating agencies, it is advised to contact Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS if you have any information on the whereabuts of Esene Udofia.

Thoughts? Thankfully I was able to find an article with information on at least one of the fugitives featured in the Houston thread. I don't even have to elaborate on how stupid this murder case was. I don't know Esene's financial situation at the Joe was killed, but he would have had other fares to pick up over the week and make money on. There was absolutely no reason as to why the situation needed to escalate to murder.
As far as whereabouts go, Udofia appears to be a Nigerian surname, so it's quite possible that Esene fled to Nigeria. After 31 years on the run, it's not that likely that he'll be arrested, but we can only hope that he travels back to the US and gets arrested at customs.
