In August of 2009, the parents of Jose Palacios received a check in the amount of $3,900 that was addressed to their son. They did not want to give the check to Jose since they believed he would spend it on drugs. Surveillance footage and records showed that Jose purchased a hammer on August 2. The following day, Jose lured his mother to him, claiming his truck broke down. That's when authorities say that Jose bludgeoned his mother to death with that hammer, and then setting her body on fire. It's believed that he then fled to Laredo, Texas and crossed the border into his native Mexico.

Thoughts? The most recent entry in the Harris County court records on Jose was a 2004 conviction for assaulting a family member. That indicates he is still at large as this murder case has not yet gone to trial. Family members indicated that Jose did suffer from a mental disorder and was addicted to drugs. Dealing with mental illness is very hard and that will definitely be brought up if Jose is caught and brought to trial. Hopefully he is caught soon for the sake of his own safety and definitely the safety of everyone else around him.
