John shot his friend in the stomach, seriously wounding him. The motive may have been that John and wife were in an open relationship where she was allowed to date other men. John was last known to be in the Southwestern United States, in particular Texas. Based on crime location, it is advised to contact the Pennington County Sheriff's Office at 605-394-6117 if you have any information on the whereabouts of John Norbert Kockler.

-- Thoughts? Quite an unusual case for three reasons, first is that this is a fugitive wanted for a violent crime in South Dakota, second is that this was a drive-by shooting committed by a 68-year old man, and third it's the case of a fugitive in his 80s where local law enforcement is still openly looking for him. It's quite possible that John has since died under an alias but on the off chance that he's still alive and in decent health to face trial, we need to figure out what became of him. web.archive.org/web/20170604133207/http://www.pennco.org/index.asp?SEC=2B1C0696-9E27-4FFB-BEC5-A8B241277436&Type=B_BASICwww.yankton.net/news/article_d094229e-0ed8-54a4-9627-2cabbb45b81d.html

I think I was familiar with this case as well- not lessening the crime but is kind of a salacious and bizarre story- a man who's basically a senior citizen in some sort of weird triangle who allegedly shoots the man sharing his wife. This sounds like the plot to a Lifetime movie.
In any case, i feel Kockler has probably passed away by now.
