From lasvegasnow.com:
LAS VEGAS - A year after his murder, the family of Jose Alatorre is asking for the public's help finding his killer. The case has gone cold.
The 19-year-old was shot and killed near Washington Avenue and Decatur Boulevard in what appears to be a random act of violence.
May 11 will never be the same for the family of Jose Alatorre. It marks a year to the day when he was shot and killed.
"We are suffering a lot and that pain is going to be forever," said his mother Edith Guzman.
This will be her first Mother's Day without her youngest son.
"My holidays are gone."
All she's left with are memories.
"Last time when I came home from work, he had a cake -- 'super mom,'" she said.
She wants to continue being Alatorre's super mom by finding his killer.
"We will do anything we can to find out who did this to my son," she said.
A billboard has been posted on US 95 and Las Vegas Boulevard with the hope that drivers see it and call in a tip.
Alatorre was gunned done in a drive by shooting while walking along Minnesota Street. Police believe the suspect got away in a black 4-door sedan.
The victim's family lives nearby but avoids going near Minnesota Street because of the bad memories associated with it.
"It's like that part of town, that part of the neighborhood doesn't exists for us," said Jose Luis Alatorre, victim's brother. Both brothers share the same first name.
However, on Monday they will march down that very street and around the neighborhood with police and community groups by their side encouraging residents to come forward with information that could bring closure to their family.
"We'll at least feel some kind of comfort knowing that justice was done for my brother," Jose Luis Alatorre said.
"That will give us relief that finally my son got justice," Edith Guzman said.
Justice for the family of Alatorre will also mean his killer won't hurt anyone else.
Again, the march will be held Monday, May 15 at 5 p.m. followed by a vigil at the intersection of Minnesota Street and Kansas Avenue which is near Washington Avenue and Decatur Boulevard.
Anyone with information on the crime is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
