Shortly before midnight on March 15, 2002, several of Yonkers's Vatos Locos Hispanic gang members exchanged words with a group of young black men about their race. The men returned with reinforcements an hour later and a rumble broke out on the street. During the rumble, authorities say that one of the Vatos Locos members, Eder Guerrero shot and killed Damion Lee South. Damion's family said that he was not involved in the fight and was simply watching what was unfolding. After the murder, it is believed that Eder fled to New Jersey and then to Mexico.

Thoughts? I realize this is a sensitive case to talk about because there was the racial angle that resulted in the rumble initially. It's somewhat similar to what we saw in the Merced Cambero case where Merced's gang was targeting black individuals in Los Angeles because of their race. It should be noted that the majority of hate crimes committed in the United States are done by whites and not minorities.
It's been 15 years since Damion was murdered, that is far too long that his family has been waiting for justice.
