A missing license plate proved the undoing of a Central Falls man who is being held without bail as a suspect in a Texas slaying.
There was no front plate on Neptali Fuentes's car when he drove south on the Douglas Pike June 5 at 7:10 p.m., police said.
Patrolman James Anderson noticed the absence of a front plate and halted the car. After questioning Fuentes, 32, of 702 Dexter St., he checked his name in a national crime computer network and discovered a warrant had been obtained by police in Houston, Texas, charging him with homicide.
Spokesman Joe Gamino of the Houston Police Homicide Division said yesterday tha court records there give this story:
Magdalena Chacon, Fuentes's ex-girlfriend, was in bed with a new boyfriend, Jose Ruiz, in the couple's apartment on Elysium Street in Houston on Nov. 13, 1993, when she heard a noise. Checking, she looked out and discovered Fuentes staring through a window.
Fuentes forced his way into the living room and then into the bedroom, where he allegedly shot Ruiz to death and fled.
Nothing more had been heard of Fuentes until Smithfield police arrested him, Gamino said.
Chief Judge Albert E. DeRobbio of District Court ordered Fuentes held at the Adult Correctional Institutions while the Sheriff's Office of Harris County, Texas, begins extradition proceedings.
Based on investigating agencies, it is advised to contact Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713.222.TIPS (8477) if you have any information on Neptali Fuentes's whereabouts.

Thoughts? Even though Neptali Fuentes was arrested in 1997, according to the Harris County District Clerk court records, he posted bond later that month and fled AGAIN. Yes, he was a fugitive for four years, fled to a completely different part of the US, and they still allowed him to post bond. When they list his place of birth being "HD" I am assuming that means Honduras in Central America, especially since Neptali is not a US citizen. We can only hope that he's still somewhere in the US and not in Honduras where arresting him at the current time is not possible.
