(Above photo credit: masslive.com via Vermont State Police) From masslive.com: MONTPELIER, VT - The Vermont State Police announced Wednesday that they are offering a reward of up to $5,000 to anyone who can provide information leading to the apprehension of murder suspect Jayveon Caballero. The 29-year-old Caballero, of Barre, Vermont, is believed to be responsible for the murder of Markus Austin, a state employee and former professional basketball player. Austin was shot to death in a parking lot off Barre Street in Montpelier during the early morning hours of January 22. Police have previously stated they believe Caballero shot Austin hours after the two were involved in a fight outside of a Barre bar, during which witnesses allege Austin assaulted Caballero's girlfriend. When it occurred, the murder rocked Montpelier--being the city's first homicide in Montpelier since 2011. A number of individuals associated with Caballero have already been arrested, including his girlfriend--who was arrested on drug charges--and one of Caballero's friends, who police believe bought the murder suspect a bus ticket so that he could flee the state. The Vermont State Police want to encourage anyone who believes they have pertinent information to contact the nearest Vermont State Police barracks, said Major Glenn Hall www.masslive.com/news/index.ssf/2017/03/vermont_state_police_offer_500.htmlAdmin note #1: According to some online articles, Anyone with information on Caballero's whereabouts is asked to call investigators at 802-229-9191 or 802-223-3445.
Admin Note #2: If you have any (news-related) updated information on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

Thoughts? First of all the above article is a little misleading, as this was Montpelier's first SHOOTING since 2011. This was actually Montpelier's first alleged MURDER in nearly 100 years! (The last homicide was the 1920's when a woman shot her husband): www.foxnews.com/us/2017/01/23/suspect-sought-in-vermont-capitals-first-murder-in-nearly-100-years.htmlThis is added to the fact is it extremely rare to see a Vermont fugitive in general on this forum (the most infamous case being now deceased rapist Philip Jackman.) Obviously though, if you're the family of Markus Austin, he was more than just a footnote in Vermont history to them, he was a family member and the man who allegedly took him away from them is still on the loose. As for Caballero, eyewitness accounts say Austin assaulted his girlfriend. Caballero had every right to be upset initially if that's true. But the problem is he didn't shoot him during that altercation and during the heat of the moment (not that I'd excuse that of course), but allegedly two hours later in a parking lot. That's what makes this a homicide case and not a manslaughter case. I also will admit though eyewitnesses witnessed the initial fight, but none of them saw what happened two hours later (at least articles don't say so). Caballero, despite running and despite the accounts in articles, still has the right to be considered innocent until proven guilty. Perhaps he has his own side to the story as to what down in that parking lot that he'd want to tell if asked. However, rather than defend himself, he chose to go in the run. The best thing he could do for himself would be to turn himself in imo. Also, as far as whereabouts are concerned, articles say he has ties to Florida. I found his Facebook which mentions being from Red Hook, New York (Upstate New York) and his Twitter shows his location as Deltona, Florida along with Vermont: twitter.com/truevillain55?lang=enwww.facebook.com/jayveon.caballero

If it is true that Markus Austin assaulted Jayveon's girlfriend, then Jayveon should have called the police and let them professionally handle the situation. Allegedly shooting Markus to death two hours later is not how this incident should have ended.
