From the Orange County Register website (ocregister.com):
SANTA ANA - Family and friends of a 24-year-old man who was stabbed to death at a Halloween party pleaded with the public to help them capture the suspected attacker of a man they described as giving.
"Frankie was a hard-working person," said his 48-year-old mother Estella Sotelo. "He was going to get married," she said as she stood next to his fiancée Alyssa Avalos, 24, who was fighting back tears.
Family and friends of Frankie Jesus Sotelo Jr., of Santa Ana, gathered at the Santa Ana Police Department Tuesday morning to announce a $2,000 reward being offered for information leading to the arrest of his suspected attacker.
Authorities have identified his suspected attacker as Ezequiel Jauregui Gonzalez, 21, of Anaheim, but investigators have not been able to find him. Santa Ana police Cmdr. Tammy Franks said an arrest warrant for murder has been issued for Gonzalez, who might have been living with relatives in Riverside.
Estella Sotelo said reward money was raised through donations and fundraisers in hopes of motivating anyone with information to turn Gonzalez in.
"He took the most precious thing away from me," she said.
Tomas Vargas, 28, of Santa Ana, couldn't fight back tears as he talked about Sotelo.
"He was like my younger brother," Vargas said about his friend of six years.
Then he sent a message to who he described as a cold-blooded killer: "If you are out there listening Ezequiel, be a man. Step up and turn yourself in," he said.
Sotelo died Nov. 2 after being stabbed multiple times in the chest during a fight at a Halloween costume party in the 4900 block of West Acapulco Ave., Franks said.
Vargas hosted the costume party for about 100 family and friends. Vargas said that as the party was ending, he heard screams and yelling coming from the back yard. When he went outside, he said he saw Sotelo and the suspect "going at it."
"Every blow Frankie was receiving was a stab wound," he said.
Sotelo was not armed, police said.
Police said that a fight broke out as Gonzalez and other uninvited people tried to take a beer keg from the backyard. Sotelo confronted Gonzalez about taking the keg and that's when - police said - Gonzalez stabbed him several times.
Sotelo's fiancée was also stabbed in the stomach as she tried to stop the fight, Franks said.
Police were called at 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 1 and found Sotelo unconscious and not breathing in the backyard. He underwent emergency surgery at UCI Medical Center in Orange and was placed on life support. He died the next day. The girlfriend is recovering from her injury.
Gonzalez fled the scene. He is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 220 pounds with black hair.
Sotelo's family and Avalos are offering a $2,000 reward for information that will lead to Gonzalez's capture.

Thoughts? This case is ridiculously tragic and did not have to end the way it did. Please note it's been over a decade since Frankie Sotelo's murder and Gonzalez will be turning 30 later in the year. Orange County, California warrants search confirms Gonzalez is still at large as of this posting date (3/17/2017). Please also take a look at the Santa Ana P.D. poster as they describe Gonzalez's tattoos. I wasn't able to figure out how to copy and paste the symbols into this post.
