From kentuckynewera.com:
After a year of waiting for justice to be served in Calvin and Pam Phillips’ name, a reward of $100,000 was offered by the couple’s friends and family to anyone with information that leads to an arrest.
It was announced last week that a reward will be offered for information about who killed the couple and their neighbor, Ed Dansereau.
The bodies of the Phillips and Dansereau were found Nov. 19, 2015. Since then, no arrests have been made. Christian County Sheriff’s spokesman Capt. Chris Miller said they are still waiting on the rest of the results to come back from the lab.
Matt Phillips, the son of Calvin and Pam, said he put a lot of faith in the justice system and expects it to work out. However, very few people have come forward with information.
Matt said it could be because someone is afraid or unwilling to get involved — he doesn’t know which it is — but he hopes the reward will help those with the information come forward and make the right choice.
He said it makes a lot of sense for someone to be afraid: Someone went to great lengths to clean up after killing three people. On top of that, he said the person hasn’t been held accountable, and they are still out there — it is terrifying.
Since he lost his parents, Matt said he feels depressed, angry and desperate for answers. His life was changed significantly because of this.
Matt said his parents were married in 1981 and were about to celebrate their anniversary when they were killed.
“They were good people,” he explained.
His mother worked at Heritage Bank. His father was a military veteran and an entrepreneur.
Matt has been experiencing intense trauma since his parents were taken from him. He explained that he tries to get by day by day. Then something as simple as a song on the radio causes a memory to surface, such as when he took his dad to a concert a few years ago.
“You don’t expect it,” he said, adding the normalcy in his life was ripped away.
And no one else understands, he continued. Matt compared it to something a friend told him, which is you can have empathy for the cancer patient or survivor, but you don’t really understand it unless you went through the same.
There’s very few people who have lost their parents in this way, Matt continued.
Not only are they gone, but there’s no answers. He said all of this can consume you and it makes you question the whole society.
On top of that, Matt feels his parents’ character is being assassinated by the rumor that an affair happened, but he said there’s something more important than that.
“It feels like noise,” he said. “Focus on what’s important.”
Matt said he sees the love his parents had for each other through letters he has that they had written to each other.
Matt, who was their only child, said nothing is more important in his life than finding the answers from this tragedy, and he’s not alone. Dansereau’s family is also supportive of getting answers, he explained.
Dansereau, Matt said, was a “great guy” who taught music and was his parents’ close friend.
“He was one of those people you would want to be near,” Matt added.
He was the ultimate neighbor, Matt said, and it seems to him that Dansereau tried to help his parents in the end.
“They deserve justice after everything,” Matt said. “So do we.”
