The above photo is of Orlando Orea, a suspect in one of the most tragic murders in recent memory in New York City.
Michael Jones was a beloved youth soccer coach for several teams in Westchester, New York who had moved to the United States from England. It was 4:30 am in the morning on an early Sunday. Jones had left a nightclub party and was in Union Square and was headed towards his girlfriend's house in the East Village section when Orea allegedly attacked him. Orea allegedly pulled a knife and plunged it into the back of Jones' head and his neck. He kept stabbing, driving the knife into Jones' chest and stomach. He also allegedly cut off Jones' ear.
And as it turns out- while the actual motive is unknown, police believe the most likely reason Jones was murdered was mistaken identity. The NYPD believes the most likely motive is that Orea mistook Jones for a man he had argued with earlier in the night.
Orlando Orea, also known as Orlando Gutierrez, or Orlando Estevez, left an "apology" note to his brother before booking a flight to Mexico as authorities just missed him. Despite the police commissioner stating police knew what village Orea was in, Mexico's promised cooperation in the case, and a flag from INTERPOL should Orea try to flee to a third country, he is still on the run.
Meanwhile, both the children and the parents of the teams Jones coached in the states, and his friends and family back home, were left devastated. In a testament to his popularity, Jones's funeral was packed and standing-room only, with understandably lots of tears shed.
I am genuinely surprised this case seems to have fallen by the wayside. In NYC, the murder was the top story on local news broadcasts and front-page news for the first few days afterwards, but unfortunately the case now seems to have faded by the wayside.

Update: As of 7/19/2018, I could not find any articles since Orea was aired on The Hunt last fall. Based on that, I feel it is reasonably safe to assume that Orea is still at large as of this update (7/19/2018).
