Fugitive Profile as of August 31st, 2014 (based on archived FBI wanted poster): Aliases: Eddie Nye, Edward Noose, Eddie Noose, Edward Edgar Nye Date of Birth: June 30, 1945; March 23, 1948; June 20, 1945 Place of Birth: Rome, New York Height: 5'11" Weight: 210 pounds Nationality: American Sex: Male Race: White Eyes: Brown Hair: Brown Occupation: School counselor Scars and Marks: Nye has a scar on his abdomen from an appendectomy. Remarks: Nye has been known to play guitar in a band, work on cars, and lift weights. He has a youthful appearance. Who to call if you've seen him: Local FBI field office or embassy or submit a web tip at tips.fbi.govEdward Nye is wanted by the New York State Police. I have no evidence as to whether he was profiled on AMW during the 1990s. In 1981, Edward Nye had taken a job as a counselor at a school for young boys in Canaan, New York. Rumors of sexual abuse quickly surfaced and led to Nye's arrest in 1982. Nye pled guilty to sexual abuse charges in 1983, but was committed to a psychiatric center for suicidal tendencies. Four days after being committed, Nye disappeared from the center, and an Unlawful Flight to Avoid Confinement warrant was issued in 1989. Thoughts? Even though he was committed due to suicidal tendencies, part of me wonders of that was a ruse to escape from law enforcement custody. He once had his own country-western band so he could have easily have fled to the Southern US and taken up work in the trades (also has worked as a maintenance worker, carpet installer and mechanic.) childabuseunit.com/wanted/posters/nye.html (Reposting of his FBI Monthly Featured Fugitive poster) www.troopers.ny.gov/Wanted_and_Missing/Wanted/view.cfm?ID=722a2aa1-af56-452e-a69c-c1fe0974ad14 (Update from site admin: As of July 26th, 2018, Nye is still listed on the New York State Troopers website as a wanted/missing person) Admin Note: If you have any news-related updated information on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

I'd say your theories are pretty good. What I'd like to know is why that warrant wasn't issued until six years after he escaped.

The 1990 book on wanted fugitives by Stephen G. Michaud details the manhunt for Edward Nye. It reveals exactly how Nye was able to disappear from the psychiatric center. Probably due to an error by staff, Edward's designation was changed from "in-patient" to "out-patient" a few days before he was scheduled to return to court to face sentencing. That meant he was able to simply leave the center before detectives went back to there to pick him up. *anyone besides me reminded slightly of the paperwork error in the Joseph Dudley Ashley case in regards to this*
Additional bit of information, months after he walked away from the psychiatric center, Edward called a private detective and his court-appointed lawyer inquiring as to whether his sentence could be set aside. He could have initially fled to New York City, but at the time of the book, investigators had no decent leads on his whereabouts.

In Pursuit should really give him a profile next year in season 3, it may be a cold case but honestly publicity from the show will help.

I’m of the belief his suicidal tendencies were genuine - a lot of mental health professionals are wise to the trick when it comes to someone in a jail malingering you’re get committed. Thus, I think suicide is a real possibility.

Well the 2020 news was previously posted but apparently we missed that he may be in Caanda so it was still good to bring it up again lol.
It does make sense he'd be in Canada being he escaped from upstate NY in the 1980s (Canada was still the #1 country to escape to back in the 1980s as well- Mexico didn't overtake it until the early 90s).
