Figured this was somewhat relevant to mention since after Robert Stack passed away, Dennis Farina became the host of the Spike TV original episodes/Lifetime rerun version of the Unsolved Mysteries show that we often discuss on here, especially in the cold case forum. He has passed away at age 69. I'm going to be honest and say I thought Unsolved Mysteries was not the same with Farina. He was a great actor don't get me wrong. But Stack had the mysterious creepiness and voice that was so perfect for the show, and it annoyed me to no end when they dubbed over the old re-enactments with Farina's voice. One reviewer in a link below disagrees with me, feeling Farina was a good host of Unsolved Mysteries because he seemed to sometimes be winking at the sometimes over-the-top nature of the show in his introductions and narratives. In other words, he had a more "light-hearted" approach to the show and wasn't as somber or serious. Still, he was a good actor, and I have to give him props for actually wanting to try to fill in Stack's footsteps, which isn't easy to do. If AMW ever comes back, there likely will come a day where John Walsh is no longer the host. And like Farina taking over for Stack, whoever takes over for AMW will have big shoes to fill as well. RIP. www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2013/07/22/dennis_farina_dead_actor_and_former_cop_was_loved_for_law_order_get_shorty.html

How telling is it that when I heard Dennis Farina had died, the first thought that popped into my head was "Unsolved Mysteries?"
I personally wasn't a huge fan of the Dennis Farina episodes, but I put more of the blame on John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer (the executive producers) for "updating" the show with flashy graphics and cutting out content out of all the stories. Dennis did a decent enough job as host. I unfortunately haven't seen any of his other acting roles so I can't really say anything else about him.
It's scary that he was only 69 years old though. He seemed healthy enough, but it's hard to tell just by looking at someone. Like you said, this is definitely a sad day for a lot of people.

The most blasphemous thing they did to the show was getting rid of the original theme song which was perfectly creepy. Heck, AMW's first two theme songs were perfect and I still haven't gotten over the 2010 change. (The Lifetime second half theme was decent but not overly memorable)
Apparently, Farina was in good health and had a sudden blood clot in his lung. Kind of scary how it happened.
And it is funny that most people probably would say Law & Order or one of his movies such as Get Shorty when thinking of him. We and I'm sure a few other forum members thought "Unsolved Mysteries"

I kinda felt bad for him. He's a good actor (loved him in Snatch) but not only did he replace Jerry Orbach (a legend) for L&O, but also Robert Stack in UM. Both roles he had to fill the shoes of great performers, which kinda raised the bar for him. Either way he's a great actor and he will be missed.
