From the Chicago Tribune website:
Six months after Kianna Galvin disappeared after telling her sister she was going to Jim Hansen Park on a Friday afternoon, a vigil was held there Sunday night.
South Elgin police said Sunday there are no new leads in the May 6 disappearance of the then 17-year-old girl.
By holding a candlelight vigil at the park, her mother, Fiona Galvin, said family and friends hoped to reignite questions and bring attention to her daughter's case.
"We want everybody to still be aware that my daughter is missing," Galvin said.
"It is still a part of my everyday life," she said, waking up in the morning and remembering her daughter is still gone.
About 50 people came to the vigil, bringing their own candles or lighting those handed out by the family.
Carolyn Cynowa, a close friend of the family who has been acting as a spokesperson since Kianna's disappearance, said the family appreciated those who attended and those who have kept her case visible on social media and in the news.
"It feels like it has been a bad dream. No mother or father should ever have to feel this," Cynowa said.
The Rev. George Birungyi, a chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital who is close to the family, led a prayer, asking God to bring Kianna home.
Galvin, of the first block of Concord Avenue, was last seen wearing a black tank top, black leggings, white-and-black Nike slide shoes and brown sunglasses.
According to South Elgin police, Kianna's phone has not pinged a cellphone tower since about 1 p.m. on the day wof her disappearance. Police have used information from her phone records and social media to search for clues in the disappearance.
Officials said they've found no signs of abduction in the investigation and police continue to follow up all leads provided by the public.
Anyone with information concerning Kianna's whereabouts is asked to call the South Elgin Police Department at 847-741-2151 or after business hours to KaneComm, 630-232-8400.
