Authorities in Texas have been searching for the unidentified killer of 7-year old Cortney Clayton for 25 years. The case was aired on AMW (Dec 1988 if IMDB is correct).
On Sep 2, 1988, Cortney was abducted in Stamford, Texas after leaving a store where she was buying a soft drink, this was at 8:45PM. She failed to return home and a search was launched immediately. Her skeletal remains were found in Mar 1989 in Shackelford County, nearly 50 miles away from Stamford. The store owner noticed Cortney's drink was on his pickup truck when he went to close the shop up. Condensation resulted in no fingerprints.
A woman claimed to see a dark-haired man around 35-years old who was outside the store at the time of Cortney's disappearance. The lead went nowhere and Courtney's family feels that the focus on the suspicious man may have caused potential tipsters not to call into police if they suspected anyone who didn't resemble the description. There are no suspects or persons of interest, and authorities aren't aware of how or where Cortney was killed.
Thoughts? At this rate it's going to take a deathbed confession or something that nature to bring some closure to this case. The witness account is somewhat questionable and there's likely no forensic evidence to work with due to the condition of her remains. So the chance of this case getting solved is rather slim unfortunately.
