Teresa Reyes has been missing for the past 15 years. Her case was never aired on AMW.
On Jul 1, 1998, 17-year old Teresa was living at her residence in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She had been previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder and several learning disabilities and had ran away for less than a week in the past. Teresa took some food into her bedroom at around 11PM that night but her mother noticed she had left when she woke up at 3AM the following morning. Most of Teresa's belongings except for a pair of sandals were still there. Teresa had spent most of that day with a cousin who claimed that she and Teresa had been approached by several young men who resembled gang members. The men offered to take the girls to a party, the cousin declined but Teresa appeared to be interested. The men lived in a residence north of a local gas station.
Teresa's mother eventually discovered that her daughter had written down the phone-number of one of the men, which matched the cousin's story. Investigators determined that the number was from a disconnected cellular phone but said they didn't have enough evidence to get a warrant.
In July 1999, Teresa's mother received a phone call from a man claiming to know information. A detective was sent and the man claimed that a girl matching Teresa's description was seen with a Cuban drug dealer named Oscar and a prostitute named Monica. Monica was located and she told investigators that Teresa may have been put into prostitution by "Oscar" (either forced or willing). She 100% percent believed that the girl with Oscar was Teresa. The sightings were never confirmed. Several psychics claimed that Teresa lived for a short period of time but was murdered and her death was drug related. There is no evidence to support these theories.
Thoughts? I don't know what to make of this case and at this rate it appears that it will never be solved. Assuming the young men who invited Teresa and her cousin to the party were gang members, then perhaps they helped force Teresa into prostitution. Despite some of the claims, I'm doubtful that a mentally challenged 17-year old girl who also had bipolar disorder would willingly force herself into prostitution without being in contact with her family. What happened to her after 1999 is up in the air, she could easily be dead or forced into sex trafficking in either the US or Mexico.
Something else I wan't to bring up. One of the links I provided is a part of the "Real Crimes" website. It posts cases that may be the result of police neglect or corruption, mainly in the Albuquerque, New Mexico region. While there's no reason I've seen to suspect law enforcement corruption in this case, it makes you wonder. The main case featured on the site is the 1989 murder of Kaitlyn Arquette (her case was aired on Unsolved Mysteries).
Admin Note #1: Sadly, in 2013, Teresa's remains were identified and this is now an unsolved murder investigation. Should anyone have any information on this case, based on crime location, our advice would be to call Albuquerque Crime Stoppers at (505) 843-STOP
