From the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (DPS) website:

Mrs. Kennedy had been beaten and stabbed multiple times. Found inside the home were her two daughters, ages 4 and 18 months. The children were unharmed. Thoughts? I found it out about the case as it has recently made the news again- Kathi's husband at the time David Kennedy (who was away on a fishing trip when Kathi was murdered), moved to a new house with him and Kathi's two children. This past New Year's Eve, there was a major fire at the same house. One of the few items to survive? Kathi's wedding photo. If that isn't divine intervention, I don't know what it is. At the same time, her killer needs to be brought to justice as well. Here is the article about the case, also states the Kennedy family still needs help after the fire and David's brother has started a GoFundMe Account for them: www.wfmynews2.com/news/local/wedding-photo-of-murdered-triad-mom-survives-fire/381369892
