Sex: Male Height/Weight: 6'0", 175 lbs. DOB: 16 Oct 1951 Place of Birth: MN Eyes/Hair: Blue/Brown Scars/Distinguishing Features: Irregular left ear Race: CAUCASIAN --- William Hughes was stationed at the Kirkland Air Force Base in New Mexico, and was employed as a captain. In 1983 however, he deserted for the US military and became a fugitive. Intelligence officials in 1986 believe that he either defected to Soviet Russia's military or was captured by the Soviets. There was also a possible link between Hughes's disappearance and the sabotage of US and French rockets around the same time. Based on investigative agencies, it is our advice that anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of William Howard Hughes should contact the US Air Forces Investigations division at www.osi.af.mil/Contact-Us/
Also any news-related updates on this case can be forwarded to us at amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form--- Thoughts? A different case from what I normally profile, but William Hughes is still a very dangerous fugitive and still a national security threat. If he did flee to Russia and is still there then he probably will never be caught and extradited unfortunately. www.osi.af.mil/About/Air-Force-Fugitives/William-Howard-Hughes/articles.latimes.com/1986-07-06/opinion/op-23298_1_u-s-air-force

Interesting case. Especially with Russia in the news a lot lately LOL. He is technically a fugitive, but then there is the interesting aspect of whether he's potentially a POW.

I like a good Cold War story and this fits the bill perfectly well. The Soviet Union was one of the biggest Rogue States of the 20th century and it may have gone either way, if he in fact had defected wouldn't it had been revealed by releasing old classified documents after the collapse of the USSR??

As of June 4th, 2018, Hughes is still listed on the U.S. Air Force website as a wanted fugitive. (Same link as in HeadMarshal's OP).

What a capture! I’d be interested to see what penalty he faces for desertion after all these years
