Fidel Castro, the controversial former leader of Cuba has passed away at age 90. Obviously a lot of fugitives are hiding in Cuba as a safe haven but I don't see this affecting things much since his brother Raul had already taken over. Still marks the end of a significant time in history though. www.cnn.com/2016/11/26/americas/fidel-castro-obit/

Well he is the second Fidel to go down in a matter of months.
Castro often described as a revolutionary, a brutal dictator and a polarizing figure on the international stage, was a very controversial for sure, he did a lot of great things for Cuba and also other nations abroad, but still there's the gross Human rights violations against dissidents in Cuba.
I might as well give him credit for his accomplishments and may his soul Rest In Peace, but the Cuban people will judge him in about 25-100 years from now.
I hope that we can finally get our fugitives back like Chesimard and Gerena because they've been hiding there for too long and maybe Raul could open up now that Fidel has passed.

I feel that Fidel was basically out of the picture anyway the past few years. It might actually be the new U.S. administration that affects things and that's really what will determine the future. Even if Hillary Clinton had been elected, there's no guarantees with any new administration. It has been indicated President-elect Trump might reverse the thawing of relations and/or will be somewhat tougher with them as opposed to somewhat softening stance of the Obama administration (considering they still haven't given us any fugitives, that might not necessarily be a bad thing). Then again, Trump seems to have had a change of heart on many issues since his election so who knows. I'm not trying to get too political here except to say time will tell what happens with the U.S. and Cuba and hopefully things get better as opposed to worse.

Welp Raul Castro will step down as leader or Cuba next week, allowing his current Vice President to take over according to the Associated Press.
