Simpsonville police have arrested one man and are searching for another, who is considered armed and dangerous, in case of a woman found stabbed to death in an abandoned home in October.
According to a news release sent by the police department on Tuesday, John T. Blauvelt and Charles Sidney Scott Jr. were both charged with murder and possession of a deadly weapon in the death of Catherine Ann Blauvelt.
Police said Catherine was stabbed to death on Oct. 24 at an abandoned house in Simpsonville. Investigators said friends of the victim found her body in the cellar of the abandoned house on Oct. 26 after hearing that she had gone missing.
Scott was being held in the Greenville County Detention Center on unrelated charged when his warrants were served.
Police said they are still searching for John Blauvelt, whose last known location was at the Las Cruces, New Mexico border checkpoint on Nov. 15. Late Tuesday evening FOX Carolina confirmed with U.S. Custom and Border Protection this checkpoint is not a point of entry into Mexico. A spokesman for CBP sent FOX Carolina this statement:
"A Border Patrol checkpoint is not a border port of entry. Checkpoints are staffed by Border Patrol agents and are located on the roads that are in proximity to the border – they are not on the international border. Ports of entry are actually on the border and staffed by U.S. Customs Protection officers. The Las Cruces checkpoint is on westbound Interstate 10 west of Las Cruces on the route to Arizona."
Blauvelt may be traveling with teen girlfriend

The chief said he may be traveling with his 17-year-old girlfriend Hannah Thompson who was reported missing out of Fountain Inn on Monday. Thompson has been gone since Oct 30, but the family just reported her missing because she stopped communicating with them, the chief said.
Thompson is 5'4 with long, brown hair, brown eyes and braces.
Thompson's parents say they are in complete shock at the possibility of their daughter being with Blauvelt.
"It was a complete shock because she had started a new job, she was working her way back into tech and things like that and we thought she was on a positive track and then all of this came out of the clear blue at us."
Her parents say it took some digging to even find out about John and now they are terrified of the possibilities.
"We were informed again through one of Hannah's friends that she was really getting into some things and basically family started doing a search. Search her cell phones anything we can find to piece together where she was, and found John's house," Thompson's parents said. "It's terrifying. I'm terrified for her that she does not realize how dangerous the situation is and she's just going along with him like it's he's her boyfriend and everything is OK."
Police say the ICE agent they're working with informed them Blauvelt had crossed into Mexico, but at this point there's been no sighting other than at the checkpoint which is not a port of entry. Interim Chief Steve Moore said this leaves the possibility open that Blauvelt and Thompson could still be in the US, particularly the south west part of the United States.

History of marital problems and violence
In January of 2016, John Blauvelt was charged with first degree domestic violence in an incident involving his estranged wife Catherine, warrants state.
Catherine told deputies that she and her husband had been having marital problems before the incident and had mutually decided they should spit up.
She said the domestic violence incident began with them arguing about who she was talking with on her cell phone. She said John Blauvelt made several attempts to look through her phone but that it was locked. He then became angry and threatened her with a .357 revolver pointed at her head, the report said.
The report states, he held the gun pointed at her while threatening to kill her if she did not open her phone.
Catherine said she refused to unlock her phone and then John reportedly turned the gun on himself and stated he would kill himself, per the report. She said this went on several times before he grabbed his shot gun, keys and left the house saying he was going to kill everyone she knows.
Catherine then began messaging her niece and brother to come help her. Within about 15 minutes, John reappeared at the residence begging Catherine not to call the cops on him. Her family then arrived and she was able to leave the residence.
John was then picked up and arraigned with a $20,000 bond and a no contact order, the report said. He was transported to the Greenville County Detention Center.
In an unrelated case, John Blauvelt was also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor on Feb 26, 2016, reports state. Deputies say John knowingly possessed and/or allowed a 17-year-old to smoke marijuana while at his residence in Fountain Inn.
Blauvelt suspended from recruiting duty in February
A spokesperson for Army recruiters across the country Kelli Bland said John has been an army recruiter since Oct 2013 in Simpsonville, but that he was suspended in Feb 2016. She said she can't discuss why he was suspended, but that he was just doing desk work and not working in the public.
Bland said Blauvelt has been in the Army for nearly 10 years. His previous assignments were at Fort Knox, Fort Hood, Fort Irwin and then he moved to Simpsonville.
She said Army recruiters go through extensive background checks and a behavioral health exam. They then take the top 10 percent of enlisted officers.
Bland said Blauvelt went AWOL on Nov 10 and is now considered a 'deserter'. She said if the Army find a deserter they will turn him or her over to the local authorities. If they do not take custody of the individual, the commander is then responsible for determining what disciplinary action should be taken, which could include court martial.
According to Bland, it has been years since they have had an Army recruiter accused of murder. She said in a statement that they hold recruiters to a high standard.
"We have about 9,000 Army recruiters serving as the Army's ambassadors to communities across America. We expect every one of them to live the Army values and serve honorably while representing the force. We take any allegations very seriously and ensure individuals under investigation are not on recruiting duty while an investigation is ongoing."
