From wkrn.com:
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (WKRN) – It was the case that shook Brentwood—a Ravenwood High School senior-to-be found dead at a local carwash.
After nearly a decade, Leif Brittain’s family breaks their silence, hoping to find whoever’s responsible.
He and his sister Kiera Walter were thick as thieves, a brother-sister duo in the heart of Brentwood.
“Me and Leif were always, like, I was like his little baby ‘cause we were eight years apart,” said Kiera. “We were the two middle children, and he took me everywhere with him.”
Even now, nearly a decade later, the pain remains.
It was the summer of 2008 when Leif was washing his truck one night in June.
Police arrived to find him gunned down, robbed, and left to die, just months before his senior year of high school.
“I haven’t, like, really told anyone this,” explained Kiera, who was eight at the time of Leif’s death. “I heard my mom… like you’ve never heard that noise before, you know what I mean?”
Seemingly all of Brentwood turned out for the funeral–a procession, clad in boots and jeans, following a casket in the bed of a truck.
“He is just up there giggling and saying, ‘Perfect. I got all these people to show up and have a celebration of life,” said family friend Shannon Kasakevics the day of the funeral. “That’s what he really wants today.”
“He was a great young man and loved life,” added Wayne Ridge, Leif’s second cousin. “It was really awesome the way they took care of him.”
While Brentwood marched down the street, Metro had a mystery and a suspect still at large.
“It’s one of the cases that occurs where the whole unit becomes involved,” noted retired Det. Sgt., Pat Postiglione.
Postiglione remembers Leif’s case all too well and believes a break is imminent.
“In that particular case, absolutely,” he said. “I do think recently some additional information came up that may push them where they need to go.”
But for now, there’s a murder without a motive, and a family without justice.
Kiera is now a freshman in college, caught between mourning and moving on.
“I hope the guy who did it is watching it to be completely honest,” she said. “It completely changed everything, but we’re slowly getting there.”
Metro officials say Leif’s case is under active investigation. Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at 615-794-4000.
