From Fox 4 Kansas City:
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- It's going on two months since 27-year-old Nicholas Preuitt was murdered in a parking garage at the Power and Light entertainment district downtown. Now, the victim's family has upped the ante in hopes of getting answers.
"Please, please give us the information we need to help find who did this to him," said Becky Barber, clinging to a handwritten note.
Just three days after Christmas, Preuitt was gunned down in a garage at 13th and Grand. Preuitt's mother hopes an additional $3,000 added to the now $5,000 reward, will lead to her son's killer.
"There are people out there who know who did this and we're asking you to come forward with information that will help solve this tragic crime," said Barber.
On December 28, around 3 am, witnesses say Preuitt got into an altercation with an unidentified black man with long braids. Shots were fired, and by the time police made it to Preuitt, there were no signs of life.
None of the parking garage cameras captured the shooting, and police don't have any new leads. Now, Barber is placing her faith in an increased cash reward, and potentially the conscience of others.
"Imagine if this was your son, relative, or someone you loved. You would want the individual caught so they could not do this crime again," she said.
As Barber waits to hear that her son's killer has been caught, she clings to her memories. She says he worked at Ford Motor Company for eight years, loved working on cars, had a great group of friends, and a big family.
"He was a good kid," said Barber.
She knows she'll never see her son again, but says an arrest will bring her the next best thing.
"It won't bring him back, but it will help me heal," said Barber.
If you know anything about Preuitt's murder, call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS. You can remain anonymous.
The reward stands at $5,000. You can also go to KCcrimestoppers.com, or text TIP452 and your information to 274637 (crimes).
