On September 10, 1999, the dismembered body of Mr. Brooks was retrieved from a large plastic trash can found floating in Walden Pond near 88th and Bradshaw Road, Shawnee, KS. The lid to the trash container had been attached with a chain an padlock. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Mr. Brooks died as a result of blunt-force trauma, and that the dismemberment occurred post-mortem. The investigation is concentrated on a former employee of Mr. Brooks, Elmahi Mohamed-Zain, a Sudanese National. It is believed that Zian is actively eluding the authorities and may have in fact fled the country. A $5,000 Governor's Reward has been established for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of Zian. After reading the first paragraph, I was hoping there was some publicity effort that could be done to apprehend Elmahi Mohamed-Zian. Then I read about him likely being in either Sudan or South Sudan, and reality set in that capturing him over there is pretty much impossible at this point. Hopefully he decides to travel back to the US someday.

As of today, September 21, 2022, there is an active UFAP (Unlawful Flight To Avoid Prosecution) case for Elmahi in PACER. There have been no case updates since it was filed in 1999.
