From ABC Detroit:
ECORSE, Mich.- (WXYZ) - A young father was shot dead in Ecorse and police say he sacrificed himself to save his brother.
Now, the U.S. Marshals say they know who’s responsible and they need your help finding one of Detroit’s Most Wanted.
Jermaine Pritchett has never been in trouble with the law- not even a speeding ticket. But, police tell us the 20-year-old is a cold blooded killer who’s good at flying under the radar.
“There’s a young child without a father, a senseless death, senseless, over nothing,” Duputy U.S. Marshal Aaron Garcia, supervisor of DFAT told us.
Garcia says 20-year-old Jermaine Pritchett killed 21-year-old Kevin Simmons after a physical altercation in Ecorse last month.
“Simmons got the better half of Pritchett on the basketball court and he wasn’t happy with that,” he said.
That’s when Garcia says Pritchett got a gun, looking to finish what the two men had started.
“Two shots rang, one of them shot him in the back of the head killing him instantly,” he said.
But Simmons wasn’t alone, his brother had been with him during that fatal night.
“When this guy was shot in the head, he was saving his brother’s life, he was pushing his younger brother out of the way to get cover because he knew Pritchett was there for no good,” Garcia said.
Police say Kevin Simmons died a hero, while Jermaine Pritchett took off.
“We know this guy knows we’re looking for him, we know he’s running, we know family’s helping him out,” Garcia said.
He says Pritchett is a member of a prominent family in Ecorse who knows the Marshals are after him.
“We know that family members are helping this guy evade capture, we know that for a fact – we know who’s helping them and we’re going to charge them,” Garcia said.
Jermaine Pritchett is considered armed and dangerous. He’s 5’5” and 150 pounds. Police think he’s hiding out in Ecorse, not far from where the murder happened.
If you know where he is, there is a reward for information. You can call the U.S. Marshals tip line 24/7 at (313) 234-5656.

Thoughts? Getting mad over losing a basketball game has to definitely go into the stupidest alleged motives hall of fame. Even more maddening is police believe Pritchett is hiding in plain sight. If anyone in Jermaine's family is hiding him (I stress I personally am not accusing them but just referencing that law enforcement IS accusing them), then they need to cooperate and turn him in before facing charges themselves. On the off-chance that it's not family but a friend or acquaintance helping to harbor him (or a friend or acquaintance working in conjunction with the family), they need to realize a guy who allegedly murders someone over something as petty as losing a basketball game can kill THEM for any reason, and they should do the right thing and call authorities.
