Aaron Hernandez appears on the verge of being declared indigent, but still may be able to keep his team of high-priced lawyers in the two first-degree cases he faces. In recent weeks, Hernandez, who made at least $11.2 million in his three seasons with the New England Patriots, has struggled in paying off his legal expenses, recently prompting at least two of his attorneys to notify the court they might not be able to continue representing him for much longer. But according to FoxNews.com, all of Hernandez's attorneys could be eligible to be paid through a fund set up as part of the Massachusetts state budget to aid financially strapped defendants such as Hernandez. The 24-year-old Hernandez has been jailed without bail and held in solitary confinement at the Bristol County Jail since June of last year in the execution style-killing of one-time associate Odin Lloyd. More recently, authorities indicted him on two counts of murder stemming from a 2012 drive-by, double slaying in downtown Boston where Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado were both killed.
Hernandez still owns the 11-room, North Attleborough home, valued at around $1.3 million, where he was residing at the time of his arrest, but it's tied up in a civil suit filed by the family of one of his alleged victims and therefore can not be used as an asset. Hernandez attorneys also allege he is still owed more than $3 million by the Patriots stemming from guaranteed money called for by the terms of his contract for the years 2013 and 2014, but thus far the team has refused to pay, prompting the NFL players union to file a grievance on his behalf.
Hernandez is due back in court June 16 for the Lloyd case and June 24 in the double-slaying case.

Hernandez had built a promising NFL career after the Patriots drafted him in 2010. He was chosen as number 77 on the NFL's top-100 list in 2013 and in 2010 he was chosen the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week. He caught a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl and earned a Pro Bowl nod during the 2011 season.
Details are emerging about the murder case brought against former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. The grand jury met 24 times and reviewed some 272 pieces of evidence in a 2012 double murder. Now a new public filing on the case shows that police had initially run into a wall on the investigation of the murders until a separate incident occurred in which Hernandez became a chief suspect. During the investigation into the death of Odin Lloyd, 27, Hernandez came under suspicion. Among the evidence turned over was 1,087 photographs taken by investigators--415 taken on the day de Abreu and Furtado were killed, or on the following day. Another 672 pictures were all taken in 2013."
"The filing shows that prosecutors also turned over to the defense ballistics and forensics reports, search warrants, financial and travel records, phone records, computer printouts and what is described as a handwritten letter," the report continues.

Lloyd slaying should be dismissed??
The former New England Patriot sat passively in a blue blazer and khaki dress pants as his attorneys argued that the charges in the Lloyd slaying should be dismissed. Defense attorney James Sultan said the prosecution might be able to prove Hernandez was with Lloyd the night he was killed, but he argued that does not make Hernandez culpable.
"You can't throw a bunch of stuff at the wall. That's not probable cause," Sultan said.
Prosecutors said their evidence includes a flurry of phone calls and text messages among those involved and the fact that Lloyd's body was found about 1,000 yards from Hernandez's home in North Attleborough, where Lloyd didn't know anybody but Hernandez.
Prosecutor William McCauley also said the state's investigation into incidents in Boston, Providence and Florida show a "common pattern" of allegations of violence against Hernandez following disputes at nightclubs.
An associate of Hernandez, Alexander Bradley, has filed a lawsuit alleging that Hernandez shot him in the face in Florida after they argued at a strip club.
Also during Monday's court hearing, Hernandez pleaded not guilty to charges that he attacked a handcuffed inmate and threatened to kill a guard and his family while at a county jail in Dartmouth.
A tentative trial date of Oct. 6 has been set in the Lloyd murder case. The judge did not immediately rule on the motion to dismiss the murder charge.

I think it's pretty much standard procedure for a defense lawyer to try to get the charges dropped and/or mitigate them. The case is probably still going to go to trial as a 1st degree murder case imo.

Aaron Hernandez featured as Mr. July in University of Florida calendar.
The school said Tuesday that the calendar was produced by a third party and Hernandez's inclusion was approved before the former Patriots star was charged with killing three men.The calendar was first reported on Deadspin.com, and the official Florida Gators football Twitter feed responded, also saying the calendar was approved before Hernandez’s legal troubles were widely known. The school advised the calendar’s maker that Florida no longer approves of the product, but that those already printed will not be recalled.

Aaron Hernandez Moving to Boston Jail Wednesday 07/09/2014
Former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez, who has pleaded not guilty to three murder charges, will be transferred Wednesday to a Boston jail.
Bernie Sullivan, spokesman for Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson, said Tuesday that Hernandez will move from the Bristol County House of Correction in North Dartmouth, where he was been for more than a year. Sullivan said the move will follow a Fall River court appearance in the 2013 slaying of former semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd.
Sullivan says Hernandez will either move to the Suffolk County Jail or the South Bay House of Correction. Both are in Boston.
A judge ruled Monday that Hernandez can move closer to his Boston-based lawyers. He is accused of killing two men in Boston in 2012.

A judge rulled out the final text messages sent out by Odin Lloyd to his sister will not be used as evidence in the AH case...WOW!!! To me this was great evidence for the prosecution...for those who know the case..IMO AH will beat his first murder rap, and go down for the double murder in 2012....I really did like AH as a NFL player, as his case seems to progress he seems to be a lil Punk as a person with alot of money....Who smiles when your in the court room for murder....Unless you get that NOT GUILTY VERDICT.....MY Opinion....

I really like that prediction and wouldn't be surprised if that happened! The problem with predicting the outcome of criminal cases with famous people is we never really can always judge based on facts what the outcome will be- so many famous people get off because they have the money and fame to be able to do so. (*cough* O.J. *cough*). Hernandez has the money and although not the most popular football player, ironically the charges have made him more famous than he ever was as a football player.

Jury selection is set to begin Friday for AH, who has pleaded not guilty to killing Odin Lloyd, a semipro football player. The judge indicated there may be another hearing Thursday before jury selection. AH trial is expected to last 6-10 weeks, this will be interesting...

Why does Robbie keep disappearing during the trials! Hernandez has been found GUILTY of first-degree murder! Considering the sometimes controversial decisions of high-profile cases, and there was no "smoking gun" or DNA evidence (the public loves DNA evidence and thinks every case is like CSI), I was actually cynical and anticipating Hernandez would get off. However, it does seem there was overwhelming circumstantial evidence, and the jury did their jobs and looked at all the facts. www.cnn.com/2015/04/15/us/aaron-hernandez-verdict/index.html

One more observation- is seeing Odin Lloyd's mother and Hernandez's mother/fiancee in tears shows there are no winners in a situation like this. I felt bad for all three of them. However, this trial was about justice, and the jury has decided Hernandez needs to be held accountable.

Aaron Hernandez has now been sentenced to life without parole. Kind of surprised to see the witness statements/sentencing right after the verdict. Maybe pakman would know better than me, but it seems in general there's a sentencing date set and that's when the Judge decides the penalty.
Likely works out better this way though since the Lloyd family didn't have to wait even longer and could get this out of the way quicker.
