The family of Jonathan Peters are hoping an increased reward will help find a suspect in his now 10-year old unsolved murder in Coos County, Oregon. Jonathan's case was featured as a web-exclusive story on America's Most Wanted's website Before is an old AMW archive dated information valid as of May 25th, 2010, I will provide more recent updates afterwards:
Friends' Business Venture Ends In Murder
Jonathan Peters and Brian Campbell were the best of friends, living in Boise, Idaho. But when opportunity knocked hundreds of miles away in Eureka, Calif., the young men jumped at the chance.
The business venture was in California's burgeoning medical marijuana industry. Brian and Jonathan moved to California and stayed with a friend who was operating his own indoor grow house that supplied cannabis to local co-ops. Brian and Jonathan hoped to start their own similar operation. Within months of arriving of in fall 2005, they had done just that.
Brian and Jonathan found a house to rent and eventually, Brian's girlfriend moved in. Money was tight, and Jonathan struggled to find additional work while Brian and his girlfriend went back to school at College of the Redwoods.
By January 2006, a friend offered the two friends some landscaping work. Matt Osborn ran a landscaping business in Coos Bay, Ore., and was behind on work due to illness. Jonathan and Brian again jumped at the chance to make some extra cash.
On Jan. 25, 2006, they drove to Matt’s apartment and spent the night. Matt had paid for a place for his friends to stay and drove them out there the following day. On Jan. 27, Jonathan and Brian arrived at Matt's place, ready to work.
That morning, cops say Brian made a few phone calls -- one to his girlfriend and one to Jonathan's mom -- moments after Jonathan said he needed to get out of the house. Brian told police that for the next few hours he searched for his friend, but to no avail.
He called Coos County Sheriff's that afternoon to report Jonathan missing. However, hours later, he left town and headed back to Eureka.
What Happened To Jonathan Peters?
It would be months before there was any sign of Jonathan and when there finally was -- and it wasn't good news. On July 20, 2006, a surveyor located Jonathan's remains a short distance from Matt Osborn's apartment. An autopsy proved that Jonathan had been murdered.
Police are still trying to piece together a motive for Jonathan's murder and are asking for the public's help.

Thoughts? There are a few updates here as I was able to find recent articles and a blog from Jonathan's mother that states she is offering a personal reward of $20,000 for the capture of Jonathan's killer. Hopefully this inspires someone to come forward. Someone must have information and know exactly who killed Jonathan, and it's up to that person to do the right thing, I'm sure they could use $20,000 as well.
P.S. As if this case wasn't tragic enough, according to the Solve Jonathan's Murder website, his sister Anna wound up taking her own life two years later.
