Birthdate: October 7, 1975 Sex: Male Race: White/Hispanic Hair: Black Hgt: 5' 4" Wgt: 155 Eyes: Brown -- Police say on the afternoon of August 15, 1999, Jorge Varela went to see his ex-girlfriend, Tiffany Welchel, and his daughter, 13-month-old Elizabeth, at the home of Tiffany’s mother, Gayla Teems. Police say Varela and Tiffany got into an argument and then Varela left. At 11:30 pm, police say Jorge returned to the house. Inside the home were Tiffany, Gayla, a family friend and Elizabeth. Police say when Tiffany answered the door Jorge shot her with a 9 mm gun. Tiffany died instantly. They say he then shot and killed Tiffany’s mother. Varela then pointed the gun at his daughter and the family friend jumped up and shielded the baby but it did not matter because Varela was out of bullets. Varela fled the scene in his car, which was recovered soon after. -- Thoughts? Jorge Varela is a very outrageous fugitive since he not only shot and killed his ex-girlfriend and her mother, but had the intent of shooting his own 13-month old daughter as well! Jorge was aired on Mar 3, 2000 and I found an archived website posting by the Georgia Bureau Of Investigation dating up till 2008. I cannot find anymore recent information on this case so Jorge is probably still wanted (If you have evidence proving otherwise then please contact us, we would be delighted to hear of his capture). Based on wanted location, our advice for anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Jorge Armando Varela would be to contact the Pickens County Sheriff's Department at 706-253-8900.

Georgia is a difficult state to confirm fugitives with. A lot of the fugitives on the Greater Atlanta Crime Stoppers website for example have already been caught However, I do not see Varela in any Georgia inmate searches so he is likely still at large.
Nice find retrieving the archive.

I found an ebay listing containing an old FBI Wanted Poster for Jorge Armando Varela. I can't make it out completely due to the image quality but I think it lists his place of birth in the Mexican city of Matamoros.

I cannot find any updates online but still wanted to bump this thread up since as far as I can tell Varela is unfortunately still at large as of this update. (5/6/2018).

This is my fiance's family. Tiffany was his sister and Gayla was his mom. My fiance was 14 when they died and it turned his world upside down. This monster is still not caught. I thought I found him last year on Facebook and the us Marshall's met with my fiance but I had to work so I couldnt come. They claim to still be working on it and apparently the man I found was his brother. I wish we could get this case more publicity. Somebody has to know where he is and my finances deserves some form of justice.

Hi jessesgirl, welcome to the forum. First of all, I am very sorry for your and your fiancee's family loss. It must have been disappointing to say the least that the lead turned out to be Varela's brother instead, but that's still good work you did and glad to see the Marshals took it seriously. As far as gaining more publicity, the show airs only 12 episodes a season so far, In Pursuit with John Walsh seems pretty responsive on Facebook and claims to read all messages sent to them. Unfortunately, they have to turn down hundreds a cases a week so there's no guarantee and they just completed season 1. (My feeling is there will be a season 2 since the show gets good ratings, but sometimes the breaks between seasons for these shows are very long). However, I still feel it wouldn't hurt to FB message them: www.facebook.com/InPursuitwithJohnWalsh/There's also Unsolved Mysteries. They're supposedly coming back on Netflix but even as a cancelled show they still do YouTube stories and allow you to submit story ideas: unsolved.com/submit-stories/Also, the Facebook page Fugitive Watch is pretty popular and posts lots of fugitive stories: www.facebook.com/fugitivewatchtv/I am sorry to see this man is still at large, but you are doing a great job so far even on your own and hopefully it leads to his apprehension. 20 years and counting is way too long to wait for justice, but hopefully it will be justice delayed but not justice denied.

Hello jessesgirl, Thank you posting here even though I am very sorry for the circumstances. To add on to Scumhunter’s post, there needs to be renewed publicity effort on this case. Fugitives such as Jorge Varela sometimes end up in Mexico but return to the US thinking no one is looking for them. Regardless of where he’s hiding, the public I’m sure would really want Jorge to face a court of law for allegedly murdering your fiancee’s sister and mother. I can’t relate to what he’s had to go through all these years but two decades is far too long to get justice. I’m also going to suggest a non-profit group called Project Cold Case. Based out of Florida, they profile unsolved murders in an online database and to their very large following on Facebook. I have confirmed they are interested in profiling fugitive murder cases as well. If you and your fiancée want to submit this case to them, I will include their link below. Hoping that for all of you, Jorge Armando Varela will be held accountable for everything he has allegedly done. www.projectcoldcase.org/case-submission/

As of today, November 7, 2021, there still is an active UFAP case for Jorge Armando Varela in PACER. I really hope that there can be justice in this horrible case one day.
