From NBC Baltimore (wbaltv.com):
TOWSON, Md. —Who killed Daniel Coverston? His family wants answers and justice.
Almost seven years since the 22-year-old's killing, they talk publicly for the first time with 11 News I-Team reporter Barry Simms.
Rebekah Coverston and her husband, Ryan Williams, seek safety and security on the West Coast, but moving thousands of miles from Maryland has not brought them peace.
"It's tragic and it consumes us," Williams said.
The unsolved murder of Rebekah Coverston's brother, Daniel Coverston, is constantly on their minds.
"He was my brother, and I loved him, and I still love him," Rebekah Coverston said.
"Very unfortunately, we have absolutely nothing to go on at this point," Baltimore County police Cpl. John Wachter said.
The investigation started Feb. 14, 2009, when a maintenance worker discovered Daniel Coverston unresponsive in his Towson apartment in the 7000 block of Lachlan Circle. The initial emergency call came in as a cardiac arrest, but police said he died from a brutal violent act.
"They shot him in the back of the head while he was lying face-down on his bed," Williams said.
Detectives know Daniel Coverston left his apartment door unlocked while recovering from eye surgery so that friends could check on him.
"I begged him to come home. Mom begged him to come home. Dad did, too. But he was 22, and he had his own apartment," Rebekah Coverston said.
Police are releasing some new information. They know prior to his killing, Daniel Coverston received a phone call from a public phone at Loch Raven Boulevard and Belvedere Avenue.
"What we don't know is, was he talking to the suspect? Was he talking to the person that murdered him?" Wachter said.
Described as intelligent, compassionate and well-liked, Daniel Coverston attended Towson University. His diploma was conferred two days after the killing. Police are frustrated.
"We talked to 33 people during this investigation, so far, and we haven't gotten any information that would lead to any positive identification of any suspects," Wachter said.
The investigation, at times, infuriated the victim's family. They complained about their treatment, finding officers non-responsive and dismissive, and insinuating Daniel Coverston led a double life as a drug dealer. Commanders found the detectives did nothing wrong.
"People don't always understand the way investigations go. Sometimes people hear things they don't necessarily want to hear," Wachter said.
From the investigation, the family did learn Daniel Coverston was selling small amounts of marijuana, which was another reason why he would leave his door unlocked.
"Yes, he was selling pot to his college friends, and his college friends, especially when he was ill, could come and go as they pleased and leave the amount they felt was appropriate," Rebekah Coverston said.
But police said they have no motive. It doesn't appear Daniel Coverston had any ongoing disputes with anyone, and they don't know if anything was missing from the apartment. His family strives for peace and hopes for justice.
"(We hope) Dan's murderer will be caught and justice will be served," Williams said.
The family said they are working with police, hoping to find even the smallest bit of information that could resolve a seven-year mystery.
Baltimore County police announced in August that a reward for the case has risen to $3,612 thanks to a private reward combined with a reward offered by Metro Crime Stoppers.

Thoughts? It's important to note Daniel was only 22 at the time of his murder, way too young for a life to be taken. Who cares if he was a small-time pot dealer. It doesn't justify his murder. Hopefully with the new information released, this case can be solved.
