A man who escaped from the Wilkes Correctional Center on Oct. 25, 1996, is on a list of 12 “most wanted long-term escapees” announced Monday by the N.C. Department of Public Safety.
Stanley Rogers, now 59, was convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon in Carteret County in 1994.
A year-long joint Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Public Safety probe of escapees who are unaccounted for resulted in 10 being found at-large and returned to the state prison system to complete their sentences, 15 found incarcerated in other states or in federal prisons (many under aliases) and 18 confirmed or believed to be dead. This reduced the state’s list of unresolved escapee cases by 30 percent.
Rogers had served less than three years of a 40-year sentence when he escaped from the minimum custody state prison unit in North Wilkesboro while on yard cleanup duty.
Prison personnel using tracking hounds searched but no solid leads could be found indicating the direction Rogers went when he left the prison.
When he escaped, Rogers’ home address was listed as New Bern, but he had relatives in Mount Airy and Galax, Va. He was described then as 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 230 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair and with tattoos on both arms.
Names and photos of the other 11 on the “most wanted” list are at www.ncdps.gov/NewsRelease.cfm?id=2263&pny=2015.
The list of the top 12 cases was developed from remaining unsolved cases. Authorities said the 12 likely are living under other names, but anyone with information regarding them can call the N.C. Department of Public Safety at 919-838-3572.

Thoughts? As I mentioned, I am little by little hoping to complete making threads for all 12 NC escapees by the end of the month. This case thankfully has more details than some of the other fugitives.
