From Fox Baltimore:
BALTIMORE (WBFF) – Newly released autopsy results have ruled the death of a 90-year-old Northwest Baltimore woman a homicide.
In May, Mary Helen Dickens-Hines was discovered brutally beaten inside her home on Garden Drive in Central Park Heights.
She succumbed to her injuries several weeks later, leaving neighbors and relatives angry and upset.
Almost three months since her death, those who knew her are still waiting for justice.
“Everybody knew her,” said a neighbor named Brittany. “She always came out and cleaned up the block, spoke to all her neighbors.
From the outside of Dickens-Hines’ home, a neglected front porch proves to be a clear sign of its owner’s absence.
“She was a nice person,” Brittany said. “I don't understand how anybody could do anything to harm her in any type of way. Who has so much hatred toward a senior citizen?”
Police are still searching for answers in the case. Hers is one of many unsolved murders that have taken place this year in Baltimore City.
According to weekly crime data from the Baltimore Police Department, police have made eight homicide arrests between Jan. 1 and Aug. 13. During that same period, police have recorded 181 homicides.
By those numbers, the homicide arrest rate is down more than 50% from 2015.
Despite that statistic, neighbors are hoping that Dickens-Hines’ killer will soon be caught.
FOX45 is waiting to hear back about another statistic – case closures. Cases can be closed if the suspect dies or is found to have committed a crime in another jurisdiction and is being prosecuted there.
Anyone with information about Dickens-Hines' murder is urged to call 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
