Jose Berruete is wanted for the attempted murder of Juan Hernandez on Nov. 26, 2010. He was aired on AMW on Lifetime in January of 2012 A bit more from a below article:
"Berruete is accused of running over Hernandez with his raised Ford Bronco. The incident began shortly after midnight when Hernandez's son, Steven, was in the front yard with family members when they saw two people spray-painting gang graffiti on a block wall across the street, police said.
Steven Hernandez got into an argument with the graffiti vandals and a fight broke out. He was knocked to the ground and rescued by his half sister, police said.
The vandals left, but promised to return with friends.
A short time later, three vehicles began driving by the Hernandez home and the occupants were yelling for people to come out.
Steven Hernandez and a friend walked toward the vehicles to confront the men and another fight broke out. His father and other family members heard about the fight and tried to break it up.
Juan Hernandez told the men to leave and began taking pictures of them with his cell phone. That's when witnesses say Berruete accelerated his Bronco, jumped the curb, drove over the parkway and ran over the older Hernandez, police said.
Hernandez was pushed through a 5-foot-high wall made of cinderblocks and wrought iron. He was pinned underneath the Bronco until Berruete managed to back it out. The elder Hernandez lost a leg.
Berruete and his friends fled."
There is now a sad update to this case. Some of you may remember John Walsh presenting Juan with a prosthetic leg at the end of the Berruette segment. A few weeks ago, he took his family to an amusement park, and elected to utilizie his wheelchair, leaving his truck and the leg in his truck. Some lowlife stole the truck. The leg is custom fitted to hit Hernandez and is valued at as much as 50,000 dollars. The family is begging for it to be returned, promising no questions will be asked.
As for Berruette's whereabouts, investigators believe he may be living in the City of Mexicali in the Baja California region of Mexico under the name Luis Avila and/or travelling between there and Orange County. He also may now be slimmer than he looks in his known photos.
