In 1987, 15-year old William Mei and 17-year old Zin Bo Zhao were at a roller skating park in Queens, New York. William and Zin were gang members but they tried to break up a fight between two girls. This led 12 members of a rival gang called the Green Dragons to show up and attack the two teenagers. William and Zin were both shot to death at close range and dumped into a river. Several members of the Green Dragons were arrested for these two murders, including 14-year old Kim Byung. Kim was convicted and served a prison sentence, but violated his parole and has been on the run ever since.

Thoughts? I am not certain as to what year Kim Byung violated his parole so I put 1987 in the thread title since that was the year of the two murders. This is an extremely tragic case for several reasons, one being the murders of two teenagers who were trying to do the right thing, even though they were involved in gang activity. The other reason is that Kim helped to commit these murders at the age of 14. That probably means his life was surrounded by gang activity and his parents were not good role models. For many young men in gang-plagued neighborhoods, this is a common issue. He still needs to be held accountable for violating his parole, but I recognize the issue of gang influence for many young men.
As for where Kim Byung is today, I checked and Byung is a Korean last name so it's possible that he fled to South Korea.
According to online & archived government websites, our advice for anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Kim Byung would be to contact the New York State Department Of Corrections at 212-239-6159.
