The title should be self-explanatory but I made a post like this a long time ago on the old amw.com message boards but the recent capture of Unsolved Mysteries fugitive (and apparently AMW Fugitive as well) William Claybourne Taylor made me think of this again. Out of all years watching AMW, The Hunt, or reading about fugitives, there are some fugitives that seem like they would be more difficult to catch than others. Has there ever been a time where you've said "they'll NEVER catch that guy/girl" only to eat crow later? Obviously William Claybourne Taylor stunned me. Another case that did was James Hammes even though he was a recent case. This guy seemed to me to be extremely intelligent with loads of money he had stolen and was likely hiding overseas. Yet it turns out he was hiding in plain sight living a relatively mundane life hiking the Appalachian Trail and captured thanks to a viewer of the CNBC show "American Greed: The Fugitives." Also, AMW Capture Anatoliy Valenko surprised me but not because I thought he'd be good at hiding but figured even if in plain sight he was likely in Russia or the Ukraine where extradition is extremely unlikely if not impossible (As we've seen with the FBI having to remove Semion Mogilevich from their website). To my surprise, he wound up arrested in the Netherlands. Who were your cases that stunned you and made you eat crow?

I honestly didn't hold out much hope for Whitey Bulger to be caught, but perhaps I should have given it more faith given how high-profile he was. Then again, he and Catherine Greig succeeded in "hiding in plain sight" in Southern California for roughly 17 years. I read (after his capture) that the FBI had solid evidence that Whitey had not left the US and was living near the coastline before the 2011 publicity campaign that led to his capture and that the sighting in London's Picadilly Square was false.
The recent capture of William Cleborne Taylor in North Carolina once again proves that fugitives do not have to leave the US to evade detection for long periods of time. I wonder how many other high-profile fugitives could be staying put in the US, although there are in all likelihood numerous FBI and Marshals' "most wanted" fuges hiding out in Mexico right now IMHO. A few, such as Brad Bishop (if still alive) probably fled the continent, but we have seen that many can live undetected in the US, Canada, or especially Mexico for many years.

John Hartin I never really held out much hope till months before his capture but I then felt his capture would never come as he could hide in plain sight forever but thankfully he was arrested in North Carolina. ( Hartin, Minor and William Claybourne Taylor were all arrested in North Carolina during the summer of 2016 which is a bit shocking) #NCSUMMERCAPTURES2K16
