From the Toronto Star website:
Toronto police have released the identity of the man they believe fatally shot Julian Weekes outside a Queen St. E. bar in the early hours of April 2.
Michael Teddy Gibson, 29, is wanted for first-degree murder.
“Michael, this is a message directly to you,” said Det. Sgt. Mike Patterson at a news conference Monday. “Do the right thing. Speak to your lawyer and turn yourself in to the nearest police station.”
In the early hours of April 2, police found Weekes, 27, in the parking lot of a Shell gas station at Parliament St. and Richmond St. E, with multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators followed a trail of Weekes’s blood to the Queen St. E. and Parliament St. area.
Police determined that before he was shot, Weekes had been at Annie’s Bar and Grill at 372 Queen St. E., attending a memorial for Ceyon Carrington, a friend who was fatally shot March 23.
On Monday, Patterson told reporters that Weekes was shot outside FUSE bar at 366 Queen St. E., where there may have been “some spillover” from the memorial, Patterson said.
The detective added that there was an “abundance” of surveillance footage from the area around the shooting, and that Weekes looked comfortable and unalarmed in the moments leading up to his shooting.
Gibson and Weekes, both from the Regent Park neighbourhood, were known to each other, Patterson said.
“We don’t know how deep the friendship ran but we do know they were associates.”
Patterson said that Gibson is the currently the only suspect, but that an investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
He encouraged witnesses to the shooting to come to police with any information.
