Sama Quinland has plead guilty in the death of a college student in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and has been sentenced to 30 years by a judge. He was aired on AMW on Lifetime last year, wanted for his participation in the murder of 19-year old DeAndre Fulton Smith. The AMW airing said the victim met his killers through Craigslist. Two other people including Quinland's sister were charged but Quinland managed to flee the area. That was until an AMW tipster in the Virgin Islands recognized Quinland's picture from the AMW.COM website, eventually leading to him become AMW direct capture #1194. Quinland must serve 80 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for release. www.foxcarolina.com/story/22553111/virgin-islands-man-gets-30-year-sentence-in-students-death

The good news is that the victim's family hopefully didn't have to sit through a murder trial and hear graphic testimony about their loved one's murder. With the guilty plea I'm not surprised he got 30 years.

Sometimes a family will accept a plea deal even if it means a lighter sentence for those reasons. There was an 11-year girl murdered here in NYC and the family agreed to let the killer plead guilty and be sentenced to 40 years instead of a possible life without parole because they didn't want to go through with a trial. And yes, with a few exceptions, the accused will only plead guilty if it means a lighter sentence, or a life sentence instead of death sentence. I also like how we got this sentencing news right when 912th is almost at Quinland's capture number and is almost complete with the current capture directory.
