From kcci.com:
Des Moines police said they continue to investigate the suspicious death of a man found dead in a basement Tuesday morning.
Police said 20-year-old Nick White died of undisclosed trauma. His roommates found his body Monday afternoon in the basement of a home in the 1500 block of 29th Street, near Drake University.
"He was always a person you'd want to be around, and a lot of people gravitated toward him because he was such a kind person," said White's friend, Jason Ashby. "I don't understand how anyone could do that."
Police spokesman Sgt. Jason Halifax said an autopsy was performed Tuesday, and the medical examiner has officially ruled the death a homicide.
"When they told me about it, I didn't believe it," Ashby said. "I can't think of anybody in the house who would do something like that. We're all really tightknit; no one had any grudges that I knew of."
Police said they are questioning people in connection with the case, but no arrests have been made. They said they do not believe the killer is on the loose.
While detectives are still looking for suspects and a motive, they said they do not believe this was a random act of violence.

Thoughts? A relatively unimportant side note but according to HeadMarshal there may be a spyware warning on some browsers on the Iowa Cold Cases website. I have a good malware detector system on my computer so I don't need to worry about it but just a warning for anyone else, turn on your block-up blocker or take other precautions just in case.
In any case, this is a really sad story but unfortunately also a somewhat mysterious one. It seems Nicholas was generally well-liked and didn't have a lot of enemies on the surface.
