From oregonlive.com:
A husband and wife found dead in their Northeast Portland home last month each died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Jerry Ephrem, 65, died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head, and Helen Ephrem, 65, died of multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, according to Dr. Clifford Nelson of the state medical examiner's office.
Nelson said Tuesday that Helen Ephrem was shot in the back and the bullets traveled to her chest, according to his autopsy.
No arrests have been made in the double homicide.
Crime Stoppers of Oregon has offered a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case.
A neighbor heard what she thought might be shots coming from near the home at 605 N.E. 114th Ave. early that morning.
A family member became worried when the couple didn't answer the phone and discovered their bodies after breaking into the house.
A neighbor who lives behind the house in an apartment complex said she was awakened by several shots between 3:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. that morning.
At first, she said, she thought it might have been coming from the early-morning garbage truck that comes by, but she also heard "a lot of voices'' coming from the direction of the home. She asked that her name not be used because she feared for her safety.
The couple had lived in the home for about 30 years, neighbors said. They described Jerry Ephrem as very sociable, happy-go-lucky and friendly, but rarely saw his wife.
The couple, neighbors said, are part of a very large Roma family and often had family gatherings at the house that drew many people.
Jerry Ephrem was remembered by some in Portland as the "Rose Guy,'' who would wander from restaurants and businesses holding a bucket of roses to sell for $6 a flower. He'd be dressed in a black jacket, black slacks and a white shirt. His wife often accompanied him, but stayed in the car as he'd make his circuit.
"There is no suspect information and no known reason why anyone would want to hurt the victims,'' Sgt. Pete Simpson said in a news release the day the couple's bodies were discovered. "The Portland Police Bureau is asking neighbors to be extra vigilant as this investigation develops.''
Police ask that anyone with information on this case, including anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the neighborhood, to contact homicide detectives.
Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case or others.
