(Above photo credit: Boston Police Department archived website) In the 1980s, Hung Tiem Pham was a rising figure in the criminal underworld of Boston's Chinatown neighbourhood, a district ran by the infamous Stephen Tse. Hung was involved in the illegal gambling, prostitution and narcotics businesses. On January 12, 1991, Boston authorities say that Hung along with Nam The Tham and Siny Van Tram went down to one of Chinatown's gambling parlors. They announced that they were robbing the patrons before shooting six of the seven men, killing five of those they struck with their ammunition. The three killers then fled Boston and went overseas to Eastern Asia were they spent most of the 1990s as fugitives. In 1998, Nam and Siny were both arrested in China and extradited to Hong Kong which were then able to extradite the two to the United States. Both of the two were convicted of the massacre that could have resulted in up to seven deaths. As for the motive, two possibilities exist. The first was a reported previous altercation between the killers and one of their victims right outside a strip club the previous night. The second was that one of the other victims had gang affiliations out of California and there was a push to merge the National US Asian Gangs into one mafia family, which would have put Stephen Tse out ruling the Chinatown underworld. Tse was eventually convicted of organized crime charges. The extraditions of Nam and Siny took a lot of diplomatic efforts between the US and China. Usually China does not extradite fugitives to the United States, but Hong Kong does have an existing treaty, which is why China sent the two to Hong Kong first. As for Hung Tiem Pham, he is seemingly still at large as of this posting date. (6/12/2016). --- Thoughts? According to a 2006 report, Hung, Nam and Siny were aired in the Spring of 1991 on America's Most Wanted. I am not aware if they were aired after that in the 1990s. The various North American mafias were a major influence in organized crime during the 80s/early 90s and even though we don't hear much about them anymore, we should remember the numerous people they killed and how many of those murders are unresolved. As for where Hung could be to this day, he probably split up from his accomplices right after the murders. He may not be in China necessarily but elsewhere in Eastern Asia, still involved with organized crime that descends from the 1700s. If he is still alive then Hung needs his photo back in the public eye through this thread and somehow, he finally needs to be caught. Based on wanted location, our advice for anyone with information on the whereabouts of Hung Tiem Pham is to contact Boston Crime Stoppers at 800-494-8477.
ADMIN UPDATE: In January 2021, Pham was added to the FBI.Gov website as an overall most wanted fugitive. The FBI.gov wanted poster advises if you have any information concerning him, please contact the FBI's Toll-Free Tipline at the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324). You may also contact your local FBI office, the nearest American Embassy or Consulate, or you can submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.

I feel sadly this guy is pretty much anonymous in Asia and the odds of ever getting him back here are slim.
But this is amazing you found an additional AMW case!

I was browsing through the archived newspapers website again and I think I found a TV Guide listing Hung Tiem Pham's Final Justice profile on Nov 1, 1995. The episode was described as "power struggle between gangs left five dead in Boston". This would not have been one of the episodes that were re-aired in 2001.

"Johnny" and "Toothless Wah" captured in China in 1998 and extradited back to Boston. Both convicted in 2004...serving 5 consecutive life terms for each victim murdered plus 19-20 years for the surviving sixth victim. Convictions upheld in 2011.

Would like to update this thread that photos of Hung Pham were very recently added to the FBI Image Feed page. This is sort of a database of images that get posted on the main FBI Wanted website. So it sounds like Hung will soon get his poster on the featured fugitive page. www.fbi.gov/feeds/imagelisting (Search "Hung" in 2020 images)

I assume he'd be a candidate but could also just mean he may be added to the main overall site soon.

Those images of him look like they were retouched and they also have an age progressed image of him. Also the crime itself is pretty heinous, plus he’s the sole remaining fugitive (usually the FBI adds fugitives from cases where there is one more individual left).
Perhaps it may be to the overall site, but to me given how heinous the crime is and how many images they have, I wouldn’t be surprised if the FBI were to add to the 10 Most Wanted.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised either, sort of fits with like a criminal enterprise theme of additions lately, just don't want to jump to conclusions

I don't believe so. If you put your mouse over the image and look at the URL that appears on the bottom left, it shows as "wanted/murders" indicating it's for a poster on the murders section of the featured fugitive page. By comparison, if you search "Hernandez" in 2020 images, the first result that comes up is an image for Jose Villarreal-Hernandez. That image's url shows as "wanted/topten".

I can officially smell his potential addition to the Ten Most Wanted List in a few months or so. 5 counts of murder plus other crimes does warrant an addition.

According to the press release by the FBI, Pham was last seen in Thailand in the mid to late 1990s, personally I think he could be in the Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, or Laos area of the world, however since he hasn’t been seen in years any of these countries would be likely, but if a guy were to hide out pretty well, he better have connections to the underworld there, or Laos would be his best bet as it’s still pretty authoritarian there. www.fbi.gov/news/stories/30000-reward-for-fugitive-on-anniversary-of-1991-boston-chinatown-massacre-011221

I do find it significant they added him to the site which tells me they must have information from somewhere, since you don't add someone on the run for 30 years to the top ten list without a significant reason- although the case is terrible enough on its own to add even with no leads.
