Gene Isaac Stees is my 50/50 States case out of Ohio.
In the 1950s, Gene married Helen while they were in University. While taking classes, Gene fell in love with another woman named Patricia Weathers. Gene told Patricia that they would get married and he would divorce Helen. On Oct 20, 1962, Gene beat Helen with a crowbar and pulled a plastic bag over her head, then he dumped her body into a lake. Gene confessed and prosecutors determined the love to be the love-triangle and that Helen had told Gene that she was pregnant.
Gene was convicted and sent to the Ohio Penitentiary. He became a model inmate and worked in the prison's records department. On Feb 18, 1970, Gene walked out of the prison while wearing the civilian clothes he was permitted to wear as part of his job. Authorities theorize that Gene had been saving up daily earnings ever since he was sentenced and used the money to take a greyhound bus to an unknown destination. While in prison, Gene had frequently talked about an interest in Australia, so a possibility is that Gene fled to Canada, changed his name and flew to Australia.

Thoughts? Gene would be 84-years old today so there's a good chance that he's since died after walking out of prison. I never want to say that a fugitive got away with being on the run until his/her death, but since Gene fled in 1970, he could have fled internationally without leaving any type of record trail and just changed his name. According to what I read during this case's research, the FBI has given up their investigation into this manhunt which I notice usually happens when fugitives get to be in their 70s and 80s. Still, I would be very curious to one day find out what became of Gene Stees.
Based on wanted information, our advice for anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Gene Isaac Stees would be to contact the Ohio Department Of Corrections at 614-677-2792.
