From swtimes.com:
One of the Van Buren Police Department’s most wanted suspects is a man suspected of raping a 10-year-old child on multiple occasions.
Frederico Trevino, 44, aka Jesus Martinez, is wanted by Van Buren police on suspicion of rape, a class Y felony that carries a sentence range of 10 to 40 years in prison, according to Crawford County Prosecuting Attorney Marc McCune.
Trevino is accused of raping a 10-year-old girl on several occasions between 2001 and 2002, according to McCune.
“She also reported that he had threatened to hurt her if she told anyone,” McCune said.
Eventually, the child’s family reported the alleged rape incidents to Van Buren police, and a warrant was issued for Trevino’s arrest in October 2002.
“During this investigation by Van Buren police, they attempted to locate Trevino but he quit his job and left the area, possibly back to Mexico,” McCune said.
Trevino worked at a local chicken processing plant prior to fleeing the area.
“If he is located in Mexico, we would have to extradite from there, a process that is similar to bringing a defendant back from another state, with the exception of us now going through this process with the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.,” McCune said.
Even though Trevino may be in Mexico, it is important that authorities capture him, McCune said.
“If he did commit this crime, he needs to be incarcerated for his actions, and to prevent him for possibly hurting other children,” McCune said. “Also, it is important for the victim’s healing process to bring closure for what he did to her.”
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Trevino is asked to call Van Buren police at (479) 474-1234.
