WAYNE TOWNSHIP -- An arrest warrant has been issued for a Florida man who police say is believed to have killed a man at a seasonal work camp in northern Cass County.
Lazaro Lopez Perales, 34, of Arcadia, Fla., is wanted in connection with the September shooting death of Miguel Calixto, 35, of Baroda, according to a news release from the Cass County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities say Calixto was shot multiple times Sept. 5 at a seasonal work camp on Glenwood Road in Cass County's Wayne Township. His body was found Oct. 12 in a soybean field on 76th Avenue in neighboring Van Buren County.
Perales' brother, Sotero Perales, was arrested in Florida in November on a warrant alleging that he was an accessory after the fact to Calixto's killing, according to the Cass County Sheriff's Office. A preliminary hearing on evidence against Sotero Perales, 45, also of Arcadia, Fla., was held Thursday in Cass County. Afterward, he was bound over to Cass County Circuit Court for trial.
A warrant for the arrest of Lazaro Perales on an open charge of murder and a felony firearm charge has been issued. His whereabouts are unknown, police said.
Anyone with information that leads to his arrest may receive a reward of up to $1,000 from the FBI, the news release said. Anyone with information is asked to call the Cass County Sheriff's Office at (269) 445-1560 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 342-7867.

Thoughts? I guess there are two possibilities in regards to Lazaro Perales's whereabouts. The first is that he's hiding out in Latin America somewhere. The second is that after eight years on the run, he returned to the United States to resume working in migrant labour. Those involved in migrant/seasonal work that are hispanic frequently cross the US/Mexico border so it would really be helpful if we can capture Lazaro while he would be on the US side of the border.
