We all love AMW for all the work the show did in capturing fugitives and saving missing persons. However, that doesn't mean the show was perfect. In fact, when it came to the reenactments, sometimes they were just downright embarrassing.
Now, to be fair, this was mostly because AMW was using actors who were just starting out in their careers or actors that only had bit parts in movies and TV shows. Still, sometimes the performances are so out-of-the-ordinary, they deserve mentioning.
Some I can remember:
Giovanni Ruanova and his crew - AMW had profiled Ruanova and the members of his drug conspiracy separately in 2006, but in 2007 they were given a full profile. But the acting in the profile drove me crazy when I first saw it (and still does when I watch it on rerun). In one scene, Ruanova is shown talking in code over the phone, which is what he did to avoid getting detected. But in a very stilted way, the actor who played Ruanova said something to the effect of, "The beast is hungry tonight. A couple of doughnuts should do him well." The way he said it was as if he was reading off a cue card, or making it obvious that he was speaking in code. And don't get me started on the actors who played the two investigators. There's a couple scenes where they're discussing strategy, and not only is their acting very forced and wooden, but the way they talk just seems really unrealistic. It's hard to explain unless you're seeing it, but trust me; it's eye-rollingly bad.
Emigdio Preciado - This is one my dad actually cracked up at. As well all know, Preciado began shooting at Deputy Michael Schaap and his partner after the van he was in got pulled over for a busted front headlight. In the reenactment, while the deputies and Preciado's van are sitting at the red light, Preciado is shown hitting the driver and saying, "Didn't I tell you to change that headlight?!" I know, AMW really doesn't have any idea what was said between the suspects before they were pulled over, but that line is so corny! Slightly less corny (but still unnecessary) is Deputy Schapp's partner saying, "Look at that van. It's got a busted front headlight. What should we do?" Deputy Schaap then replied, "As soon as the light turns green we're going to turn around pull up behind it and pull it over." Again, they probably said something similar, but I doubt it was exactly that way.
Stuart Kingston Heist - I just saw this reenactment last night when converting to DVD, and this proves to me why AMW's creative license sometimes falls short. Obviously AMW had no idea what the robbery crew was discussing before and after the heist, but the dialogue is just plain corny. Again, it's hard to say why it's corny without seeing it, but let's just say I may have laughed at one point or another.
What are some other examples of bad acting in AMW?
