INDIANAPOLIS - The family of an Indianapolis man murdered last month talks to FOX59 about finding his killer.
Octavio Gonzalez, 24, is wanted in connection with the July 12 murder of Dexter Smith, 31. Smith was shot to death in the 1800 block of Heather Court. Smith’s wife returned home in the morning to find him unresponsive.
"The reason I keep going is my kids. When he died, a part of me died. I want justice. I want him to be found," said wife QuaShawnda Smith.
Added mother Shirley Smith-Reid, "I just never thought in a million years that I would have to go through, that my son at 31 years, I would have to bury my son. He was more than a son he was my best friend."
The women told FOX59 Smith and Gonzalez had been "friends" for the last "seven months." The family went on a vacation in July to Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Gonzalez came along.
"Not only am I angry. This person we let in our circle and treated like family, ate at the table with us, I can`t forget that," said Shirley Smith-Reid.
Police aren't sure of Gonzalez’s whereabouts but said he may have left for Atlanta.
The family says finding Gonzalez will give them closure.
"I want answers and justice for my son. It is hard sleeping at night knowing that person is out there walking, breathing and doing what they are doing and my son is not here anymore," said Shirley Smith-Reid.

The family plans to honor Dexter Smith at a candlelight vigil Saturday, August 16 at the home were he was murdered.

Thoughts? On my main computer, I have several favourite pages about possible cases to profile. I started looking back at which ones had not been posted here yet and found Octavio Gonzalez's case. Octavio was treated like a fellow family member by the Smith family, and in response he killed Dexter for still undetermined reasons. Octavio has to be held accountable for that, and if he is hiding out in the Atlanta area, then it would be much easier to find him then if he had fled instead to Latin America.
