-A viking on left leg
-Skull and crossbones on right arm
-A cross with initials "JB" on it
Traits and Habits:
-Smokes cigarettes, but brand is unknown
-Beer drinker
-Has worked in carnivals as ride operator or mechanic
-Has used birthdates: 2/24/68 and 2/21/67
-Has used multiple Social Security numbers
-Was not in Newport News area long enough to have made many friends
Last Seen: Newport News , VA. Signet Bank on Warwick Avenue

Scott Brinegar is wanted for a bank robbery that occurred in Newport News, Virginia on August 6th, 1996. According to the AMW airings, he claimed his "device", a lunchbox with wires sticking out, was a bomb, but it turned out it was a fake. After fleeing Newport News, he went to Raleigh, North Carolina where he attempted to rob a bank there.

Brinegar first aired on AMW in 1997 and despite many tips after it (including one poor guy in Louisiana who just happened to have the same name but wasn't him), he is still on the loose. This is one of the earliest cases I can remember as an AMW viewer since I started watching in 1996.

UPDATE: I have not been able to find any new articles online in the past few years about the search for Brinegar. As far as I can tell, he is still at large as of this update (7/23/2018) since I haven't found anything online suggesting otherwise. However, if anyone has any updates/proof-of-updates one way or the other, they are always more than welcome to let us know.

If I recall correctly, Brinegar's trailer contained a fair amount of his cut hair. Assuming that he went almost or completely bald to alter his appearance, I'm somewhat surprised that no altered photo was done of him.

You recall correctly and that is a good point. I personally am baffled at how he's managed to stay on the run this long. Aside from him not seeming all that bright (you can't take chances as a teller but that fake bomb wasn't exactly a masterpiece), many bank robbers commit more robberies until they're caught and I'd say Brinegar has or had a good probability of re-offense.

I think when he was profiled, they showed a pic of him with what he might look like with his hair gone, but I think they just cropped the hair out. I'm also surprised he's not only been on the run this long, but that they're no altered photos of him.

I searched Pacer court records and as of this update (October 1st, 2021), there is still an active warrant for Brinegar for "Unlawfully, feloniously, and intentionally fleeing the Commonwealth of Virginia in interstate commerce to avoid prosecution for the crimes of Robbery, Entering a Bank While Armed, Threatening to Bomb, and Constructing a Bomb Device, all felonies under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Sections 18.2-58, 18.2-93, 18.2-83, and 18.2-85."
