An Oklahoma mother is still searching for her daughter's killer ten years after the murder. Today marks 10 years since Maggie Zingman laid her daughter, 18-year-old Brittany Phillips, to rest.
" This year for some reason the decade anniversary has been the hardest. It's almost like I am going through everything again from those first days," Zingman said.
On October 1, 2004 a friend found Brittany dead in her East Tulsa apartment. Investigators said the killer raped and suffocated her. Detectives collected DNA from the crime scene and have since run over 3,000 samples in Oklahoma. Currently they are looking at one specific person, but the case remains unsolved.
"I know finding her killer is not going to bring closure, but I want to feel like at least I stopped him from killing other people," Zingman said.
Since Brittany's death, Zingman has found a way to keep her daughter's spirit alive. She travels across the country in what she calls "A Caravan to Catch a Killer." She shares Brittany's story and educates others about the benefits of DNA swabbing people under arrest.
"It doesn't do anything but save lives, let out the innocents who have been falsely accused. It does nothing but help the community. And yet I fought for six years up at the capitol to get DNA in arrests," Zingman said.
Right now she's working with a state representative with hopes of changing DNA laws in Oklahoma and stopping private crimes.
After returning from weeks on the road, on Saturday morning Zingman visited her daughter's grave site on what would have been Brittany's 29th birthday.
"I usually will sing some songs that we use to sing because she sang and played music and i do the same. So I am usually sing one in particular "Hush- a- Bye Don't You Cry." Just because I want her to be at peace," Zingman said.
On Saturday afternoon Brittany's mom had a balloon release at the state capitol in honor of her daughter. On Sunday she has another one planned In Tulsa. It's at Rose Hill Cemetery at 1:00pm.
If you have any information about Brittany's death contact the Tulsa Police Department at 918-596-COPS.

Thoughts? Brittany Phillips' murder was a web-exclusive story on America's Most Wanted's old website, hence why it has been placed in the unsolved on tv section. A promising tip seemed to come in 2014, although it still hasn't led to the arrest of any suspect. Let's hope this nightmare for Brittany's mother ends soon. Like John Walsh, she didn't sit idly back and became an advocate. But for all she's done, she deserves her daughter's case to be solved as well.
