"On the evening of May 29, 2007, Orlando Ortega and a friend met for a night at the movies. After the film, the duo headed back home to West Hollywood. Detectives say that Ortega dropped his friend off, drove home to his apartment on Sweetzer Ave., and parked his car on the side of the road. Detectives believe that Orlando parked, exited the vehicle, and headed towards his apartment.
At approximately 11:20 pm, Orlando was attacked by an unknown assailant(s). Neighbors heard various screams and a gunshot. Police say that a witness reported that she heard someone say, "Oh God, help me". After the shots were fired, neighbors reported hearing a car speeding away from the scene heading southbound on Sweetzer Ave. towards Melrose Ave. Cops say that neighbors of Ortega found him lying in the street. Detectives responded to a 911 call and an ambulance carried Orlando, who had been shot in the back, to Cedars Sinai hospital. The paramedics tried to resuscitate Ortega, but were unable to save him. Orlando was pronounced dead upon arrival to the hospital . The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department welcome any information that can help lead to an arrest of the individual(s) responsible for taking the life of an innocent man."
Thoughts? The above is from the AMW archives. According to a memorial page for Ortega, the case is still unsolved. However, his loved ones are still very active and posting on his page.
P.S. Here's a sketch of the possible suspect from the old archive page:
