James Hao-Hu Taylor has been wanted by Sugar Land, Texas authorities for nearly a decade after cutting his ankle monitor off while awaiting trial for murder.
Taylor, who was a resident of Houston before his disappearance, is charged in the death of Patricia Zehler, 46, who was shot on the evening of May 17, 2005 in the doorway of her home in the 3900 block of Flintrock Court in Sugar Land.
According to reports, a female friend of one of the Zehler's sons came over with two male companions. The companions attempted to purchase marijuana from the victim's son. During the drug buy, both male suspects produced handguns. A physical altercation occurred inside the home. Zehler and her other son came to assist.
The female friend and two male suspects fled the residence but not before one of the suspects fired a shot into the home striking Zehler in the head.
Taylor, who was 20 years old at the time, was eventually named as one of those suspects, along with his 19 year-old friend Keith Klepper. (I cannot find any reports to suggest if the female was charged with any crime).
Taylor's trial was scheduled for January 23rd, 2006, however it wouldn't happen. He was let out on $200,000 bond and ordered to wear an ankle monitor. About a month before trial, Taylor cut off the ankle monitor and fled. Authorities have been searching for him ever since.
Thoughts? I said it before and I'll say it again- ankle monitors are useless! Especially with a murder suspect! Taylor and Klepper were technically fugitives before they were quickly arrested which makes the decision even more ridiculous! Taylor's awaiting trial, he has plenty of witnesses who could identify him as being at that house (including not just his victim's sons, but also his co-defendants, if Klepper wants a lighter sentence, he's going to say Taylor fired the fatal shot and vice versa and while I don't know if the girl was charged, she's going to cooperate for immunity as well). Taylor was basically screwed on both sides. Of course he was going to flee! Giving him bond was completely idiotic.
Taylor was last known to be driving an off-white 1992 Oldsmobile Toronado 2-door, bearing license plate 710-RJG but that could have changed over the years. And please keep in mind that photo is from when Taylor was still basically a teenager and his looks may changed since then as well.
P.S. Keith Klepper was sentenced to 30 years in prison. According to an article about the trial, Klepper fired a shot during the initial struggle but the prosecution and police believe it was Taylor who fired the shot that killed Zehler.
P.P.S. I'm still a little confused about the third person (female friend)'s involvement and if they testified at trial, etc, so if anyone can clarify that with proof as to what they're saying, send a private email to the admin note link at the bottom of this original post to our site and I'll update the thread accordingly.
