I can swear I remember hearing about Mexico but I think those were just logical theories as opposed to confirmed sightings.
I have heard Mexico pop up, too. Most of what I have seen about Mexico in relation to this case is theory, like you state.
I would love to find out how they suspected he fled to Idaho first.
The Facebook page dedicated to finding Tyrom Theis seems to be steadfast in their belief he's still alive, and claims multiple reported sightings in the same area in Spring of 1994.
I hope I don't sound disrespectful but my feeling is if the case is personal to me, I'm going to believe the suspect is still alive until the day I'm told they aren't because I want to see justice and the not knowing will forever haunt me otherwise. The person being dead means they may never be found and I don't want that.
However, I just feel if you take emotion out of the case and look at the case on pure facts- Theis was young, tall, multiple tattoos, distinctive personality. No seemingly reported sightings since 1994. I feel he would have stood out otherwise. Also, In Pursuit got more tips on Brian Laundrie than any other fugitive they ever profiled and it turned out he was dead the entire time. So even sightings don't equal credibility.
I hope I'm articulating well enough since I've felt that way in other cases as well. For instance, in a missing person case, someone is seemingly deceased to the outside observer and perhaps all of us here even say "unfortunately I think he/she isn't just missing but no longer alive", but if it were my loved one, I'm still going to believe they're coming back alive one day no matter what logic facts or sleuthing people say or do. Because I need that hope for resolution or justice (like we say never closure unless it turns out they were okay while they were missing and no one harmed them and that is somewhat full closure). So while I can't say I've been in the same shoes, I understand as best as someone who hasn't can.
I do hope one day we find out what happened to Theis so there can be a resolution for everyone.
