DAYTONA BEACH — The reward has been increased for information leading to the arrest of a suspect in a shooting that killed two people outside a bar, Daytona Beach police said Tuesday.
Police are now offering $7,000 for any information leading to the arrest of suspect Andre "Grip" Mayo, 40.
Mayo is accused of shooting two people fatally early on New Year's Eve, investigators said. The shooting occurred outside the Biarritz Club, a small bar next to Bethune-Cookman University at 309 Pearl St.
Police Chief Mike Chitwood said three shooters were involved after a melee erupted between a group of people who were at the bar from Deltona and Winter park. The group argued with another bar patron — 23-year-old Martell Smith — who police said was beaten to the point of unconsciousness.
The shooting broke out after Smith was attacked, police said. Both Mayo and suspect Anthony Dawson shot into the crowd and their gunfire was returned by the Deltona-Winter Park group, investigators said. Two people — Abel Morel, 23, of Winter Park, and Kevin Stanley, 21, of Deltona — were killed. Smith was shot in the leg.
Dawson was arrested on Sunday and charged with two counts of first degree murder.
