(Above photo credit: abc15.com via Scripps Media) According to Phoenix police, just after midnight on March 26, 2012 residents of the Bay Side Apartments, near 32nd Avenue and Beardsley, heard a woman scream and bang on doors for help. By the time someone responded to her pleas, 22-year-old Sheila Lomes lay dead in a stairwell, dead from multiple stab wounds. Lomes was also pregnant when she was murdered, and her unborn child could not be saved. Her 2-year-old son was not hurt, and was later found wandering through the apartment complex as he cried for his mother. Near Lomes’ body, Phoenix police officers found the knife used in the murder and their investigation quickly turned to her estranged husband, 24-year-old Gilbert Villareal. Villareal is from Mexico, and may have returned home to escape capture. A warrant for his arrest was granted and he is being sought on two counts of first degree murder. Thoughts? For anyone confused, Yogi is in the thread title because the news article's headline seems to indicate that is his nickname.
It's pretty cold blooded to allegedly brutally murder your estranged wife KNOWING she's pregnant with ANOTHER child in the frigging house.
I'm always on the fence about the death penalty, but this is one of those cases where I'd be all for it. Unfortunately, if Villareal's in Mexico, the likely only way to get him back here (if Mexico hopefully cooperates) is to drop the death penalty. But I'd be fine with him rotting him in jail if convicted as well.
EDIT: Just noticed different websites spell Villarreal's last name differently. The current spelling in the thread title seems the most referred to so I am assuming that is correct.

Glad that the Justice Network profiled this scumbag, only the worst type of person would kill their wife and unborn child.

To me, this capture stands out. Gilbert Anthony "Yogi" Villarreal was my #1 most wanted winter division fugitive of '016, and only one more seasonal division from that year still has its #1 on the loose.

The only reason Villarreal was not on my 2016 top ten list was back then I had a rule that I wanted to count forum-exclusive fugitves only to highlight lesser-known cases which meant he was ineligible since he had a Justice Network national PSA and Eric Monroe Jones was also ineligible as he was on Crime Watch Daily. I'm not going to retroactively change a final list but I did later decide it was a silly rule.

Quintana Roo is where Cancun is. Yes, Cancun is in Quintana Roo but the article doesn't state if that's where Villarreal was hiding. It's quite possible that's where he was but purposely held off on mentioning that until confirmation.

I know the DP had to be waived but I don't have a problem with that. For a person like Villereal that always has to be in control, he's now going to a place where he'll have none.

And the article mentions that he was caught in Tijuana and was jailed for three years for another domestic violence charge
