From the FBI's website:
"The FBI and local law enforcement are investigating a crime which occurred in Virginia Beach, Virginia. During the morning of June 28, 2004, 29-year-old Lois Schmidt and her 7-year-old son Jonathan Vetrano were fatally shot in the head. The victims' house was also set on fire.
At approximately 6:00 a.m., an unknown male approached the victims' home in Virginia Beach. The unknown male informed Schmidt that he was a former classmate of hers at their high school. Schmidt did not recognize him and closed the door. At approximately 7:00 a.m. that same morning, a white male (possibly Hispanic) was observed sitting in a raspberry-colored 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck in the vicinity of the victims' residence. The truck has not been seen in the neighborhood since the incident occurred. Additionally, the driver is being sought for questioning.
The suspect being sought for these murders is described as a white male (possibly Hispanic) 6'0"-6'1", weighing approximately 160-165 pounds, and wearing black clothing to include a mask."

Thoughts? According to my google searches this case was featured on AMW's old website (although I'm not sure if it was ever on the show itself). This is unfortunately a baffling case. If either was sexually assaulted in addition to being shot, then authorities aren't saying. So if that's the case, why would the suspect shoot Lois (and Jonathan), especially since Lois apparently didn't know him? Was this a thrill kill? Was he a hit man? Was the man a child predator hoping to abduct Jonathan but his plans went awry once inside the house?
Also, maybe it's because it's recent it's in my mind, but there has a been a breaking news fugitive in Virginia the past week named Dana Lee Williams, a now deceased ex-fugitive who had inappropriate sexual assault contact with a girl inside an Amelia County, Virginia home. He came back and shot an adult male in the house and abducted a still missing (at the moment) adult female. The M.O. in my opinion- is somewhat similar- possible sexual predator- breaks into a house, has a gun, winds up shooting someone. The physical description doesn't match up but if you google Dana Lee Williams or Olene Brooks (the missing woman), you'll see he's a light skinned black male that in my opinion could be mistaken for white or Hispanic. Height and weight are off but witness descriptions aren't always exact. I might be overthinking it because the case just happened, but I feel it's an avenue to explore.
